Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling News 2/15: Fallout from last Sunday; Honky Tonk Man and more

Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling: February 15, 2007

MAJOR NEWS ITEMS FROM THIS PAST SUNDAY’s LIVE EVENT

GOWEN OVERCOMES GARGANO; CAPTURES JR. HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

After several months of dodging #1 challenger Zach Gowen, Jr. Heavyweight Champion Johnny Gargano was finally forced to put the title on the line against the very man that pinned him a few months earlier in a tag team match, Zach Gowen. On this night, Gowen’s biggest fears became a reality as The One Legged Wonder pinned young prodigy Gargano, making Zach Gowen the NEW CAPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion!

However, Gowen’s moment of glory was tainted by a jealous and bitter attack as Gargano, after feigning respect and sportsmanship toward Gowen, Gargano proceeded to violently attack Gowen’s leg with Zach’s very own cane. What’s the status of Zach Gowen and how will this loss effect the state of mind of Johnny Gargano, who has lived and breathed for the Jr. Title since capturing it last fall. When, if ever, will Gargano receive another opportunity at the title and what lengths will he go to to make sure the Jr. Title is back in his grasp sooner rather than later?

CONTROVERSY CONTINUES IN THE TAG TITLE PICTURE

The tensions continued to escalate surrounding Tag Team Champions Faith in Nothing and their top two contenders, Irish Airborne and Q & A. Faith in Nothing were scheduled to defend the tag titles against the Airborne, as a result of Airborne winning the coin flip against Q & A to determine which of the top contenders received a title shot first. However, on the day of the show, the suspicious evidence started to mount. Irish Airborne were missing, meanwhile Q & A, not scheduled for action on the show, had arrived fully prepared to compete. Shortly after the show had began, CAPW officials managed to reach Irish Airborne only to discover the Crists with a broken down car and unable to make it to the show. Officials had no other alternative but to award the title shot to the next team in line, conveniently enough Q & A who seemed to be walking around with an extra bit of arrogance all day. With Q & A’s alleged involvement in the Airborne’s transportations problems aside, Virus & Unknown had a tag title match to prepare for.

Faith in Nothing were able to successfully defend the title after a hard fought battle, but controversy still reigned. While Faith in Nothing were originally declared the winners via pinfall, the original referee, who had been knocked down in the battle, overturned the decision and awarded the bout to Q & A via disqualification. FIN still retain the title on a DQ, however after technically beating the champions, Virus & Unknown are more adamant than ever about being the uncrowned CAPW Tag Team Champions. According to sources, Q & A seem convinced that this DQ win has warranted them a rematch against Faith in Nothing next month, however with Irish Airborne set to make a return, that is very much in the air. We hope to get word from CAPW management regarding this matter in the very near future.

GREG VALENTINE HELPS BANE AVENGE SMOTHERS & LIGHTNING

WWE Hall of Famer Greg “The Hammer” Valentine placed JT Lightning in the legendary Figure Four Leglock to score a submission victory as Valentine and partner Television Champion Jason Bane were victorious in a wild no-disqualification tag team war against Lightning and CAPW Heavyweight Champion Tracy Smothers. It was a measure of revenge for the big man Bane but the war between the Television Champion and Heavyweight Champion Tracy Smothers & friends still seems to be far from over.
