Pro Wrestling/Mixed Martial Arts news and notes: Late Edition 2/27/07

By Art Shimko

-- In case you haven't seen it on the front page Test was released from WWE today, he hadn't been around for a while as it was reported on several internet sites that Test (Andrew Martin) was suspended for violating the drug policy aka The Wellness Program. If this indeed true then the evidence showed because Test looked (as always) like an inflated veiny jack-off, and if Kelly Kelly hasn't dumped him yet that should be happening at some point unless she's as stupid as her TV character (and honestly, is there REALLY a difference?).

-- Speaking of ECW, tonight's main event is Lashley vs Holly for the ECW title (for the umpteenth time) in a steel cage and you know it doesn't get more "extreme" than a steel cage... also, Vince McMahon shows up, tonight at 10PM EST on SciFi.

-- Chris Benoit will be appearing at an Edmonton Rush lacrosse game on Friday night at the Rexall Place 7PM.

-- WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 was the number 10 top video game rental in Canada last week.

-- Suzanne Grosser-Lauder, mother of former indy wrestler Kurt Lauder, pleaded guilty as an accessory to her son in the 2005 murder of 16-year-old Shanna Poissant on Monday. Lauder, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison without parole for second-degree murder last year, had bludgeoned Poissant to death with a weightlifting bar and his mother later helped with cleaning up and destroying evidence of the murder. Suzanne Grosser-Lauder faces life in prison for her role and will be sentenced on 6/22.

-- Big Vision Entertainment will be doing another Ultimate Insiders shoot interview with New Jack hosted by Dr. Keith Lipinski and you can submit questions to asknewjack@gmail.com by this Friday (3/2) at 3PM EST/12PM PST.

-- Another wrestling attack caught on tape

-- SLAM! Wrestling has an article on the St. Louis Wrestling Hall Of Fame which opened on Saturday to the public at Nick Ridenour's Pro Wrestling Shirt Shop at the South County Mall, inductees on hand included veteran TV ring announcer and color commentator Mickey Garagiola and Larry Matysik, Sam Muchnick's right-hand man and a long-time fixture in the St. Louis wrestling scene, Muchnick, Lou Thesz and Pat )' Conner also were inducted.

-- Kurt Angle was in St. Louis promoting TNA's upcoming Lockdown pay-per-view which takes place on 4/15, during his promotional tour he was practicing in the batting cage with Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols.

-- Southern wrestling legends like performing in small venues

-- Add Vortekz and Grim Reefer in an ultraviolent TLC match to CZW's 3/10 show.

-- Danny Havoc's latest online wackiness~!

-- There's a report of a wrestling show that took place in Preston (a town in North West England) I assume over the weekend and claimed the show featured "Sgt Slaughter and The Undertaker wrestling in the ring" during a top-rope-real rumble (battle royal/Royal Rumble-type deal??) and that the show was the biggest and best American Wrestling Spectacular ever. First off, Slaughter and the Undertaker?? If you glance at slide presentation of this show you will see someone WHO TRIES TO LOOK like Taker and no sign of Sgt Slaughter... so those obviously were fakes, and that last line about the American Wrestling Spectacular ever? WWE would dispute the promotion's both claims, and yell about copyright infringement, and rightfully so.

-- -- What happened to Cowboy Lang?

-- PWG results from this past Saturday [socaluncensored.com]: Joey Ryan defeated Topgun Talwar; Ronin defeated Ricky Reyes; Karl Anderson defeated Frankie Kazarian; Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley defeated Chris Bosh & Scott Lost; Disco Machine defeated Bino Gambino in a 2/3 falls match; Pac defeated Kevin Steen; El Generico defeated The Human Tornado to become the new PWG World Champion

-- Forget New Jack, Ask Don Frye a question!

-- Mixed martial arts knocks out boxing

-- Liddell-Silva matchup no longer on the cards, UFC rues lost opportunity
