"Good Ole Boy" Hopes to Stop the "Viking" Quest

"Good Ole Boy" Hopes to Stop "Viking" Quest on Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat

For Immediate Release

April 30, 2007

Much like the Scandinavian pirates who plundered the coasts of Europe from the 8th to 10th centuries, Dan "The Viking" Evensen will be seeking victory at all costs when the hit mixed martial arts series Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat continues this Tuesday, May 1 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.

After winning his first five pro fights, the towering 6-5, 260-pound Norwegian has suffered two straight defeats and needs to beat Jeremiah "Good Ole Boy" Constant in order to get his MMA career back on track.

"I have to win," says the 32-year-old Evensen. "I don't care who my opponent is. It's going to be violent, and I'm going to end this fight."

Standing in his way is 32-year-old Constant, who has only been defeated once in five pro bouts. "The Good Ole Boy" hails from Oklahoma but now trains in Oregon with middleweight sensation Matt Lindland and Team Quest.

"The people are different (in Oregon) and I stick out like a sore thumb," says the former oil field worker. "I love fishin', huntin' and pretty much anything that doesn't got nothin' to do with the city. But the coaches here are good and Matt has been a real mentor in life."

Dan Evensen

In other MMA action, Pennsylvania's Stephen Haigh takes on Takuya Wada of Japan. 26-year-old Haigh, a product of Philadelphia's famous Fight Factory, has three wins and two defeats, while his 29-year-old opponent sports a pro record of 13-7-8.

Can't catch the action on ION? All episodes of the Bodog Fight series are available worldwide through video streaming at BodogFight.com, with behind-the-scenes exclusives, fighter bios and additional footage only available online.

Brad "One Punch" Pickett Aims to Entertain on Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat

Brad "One Punch" Pickett Aims to Entertain on Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat

For Immediate Release

April 23, 2007

Find out if England's Brad "One Punch" Pickett can live up to his nickname when the hit mixed martial arts series Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat continues this Tuesday, April 24th at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.

The 29-year-old former Cage Rage British featherweight champion sports a professional MMA record of nine wins and two defeats and takes on newcomer J.R. Sims of Las Vegas. The 23-year-old Sims has just one win and one loss under his belt, but has a strong boxing pedigree and self-proclaimed "heavy" hands.

"He'll probably want to fight me standing up," predicts Sims. "That's okay, because I hit pretty hard, so if he wants to play I'm more than ready!"

Pickett, who has ten amateur boxing fights to his credit, doesn't mind going toe-to-toe and says he just wants to put on a good show at the beautiful outdoor ring on the sunny shores of Costa Rica.

"I love to entertain," says Pickett. "That's why I've created a unique ring walk where I enter as a `pikey', complete with braces (suspenders) and Trilby hat to the song "Wallop" by Chas & Dave. Fans love it."

Fans should also enjoy watching Florida's Rafael "The Claw" Dias and Sweden's Sami Aziz tussle in ring. The 27-year-old Dias trains with American Top Team, and has seven wins and just one defeat, while the 34-year-old Aziz is undefeated in two professional bouts. Despite his light MMA record, Aziz warns that he is no stranger to competition.

"I've wrestled twice at the Olympic Games, and was also ranked number one on the Swedish National Boxing Team in the 71-kilogram weight class."

In addition to being broadcast on ION Television, all episodes of the series will be available worldwide through video streaming at www.BodogFight.com, with behind-the-scenes exclusives, fighter bios and additional footage only available online.

Introducing Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat

Introducing Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat Third Series Debuts with Trio of Brutal Bouts

For Immediate Release
April 16, 2007

Following the overwhelming success of its sophomore series, Bodog Fight changes backdrops for the third installment in its mixed martial arts series. Swapping the frozen tundra of St. Petersburg for the sunny shores of Costa Rica, Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat promises bigger brawls and smaller bikinis.

The first episode debuts this Tuesday, April 17th at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television, and features six of the most exciting pound-for-pound fighters in MMA.

In the opening bout, 28-year-old Jake Shields (16-4-11) from San Luis Obispo, California takes on 27-year-old Ray Steinbeiss (8-3-0) from Tempe, Arizona. A student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Vale Tudo fighting legend Cesar Gracie, Shields is one of the best MMA fighters in the world. Will Steinbeiss be able to stop his powerful takedown and submission attempts? The Bodog Fight veteran is up to the challenge as an SWKA Kickboxing champion, Arizona State Wrestling Champion, and IFC Tournament winner.

In other action, 28-year-old Piotr Jakacynski (2-0-1) from Stockholm, Sweden faces 33-year old Steve “The Red-Nosed Pit Bull” Berger (18-15-3) from St. Louis, Missouri. With 37 pro-fights under his belt, Berger is a seasoned veteran with the courage to match his nickname. He admits to getting nervous before his fights, but those nerves quickly become fuel for the coming battle.

“I tend to feed off that nervousness and anticipation though, and channel it into positive energy,” he said.

Piotr Jakacynzki

A stock broker by day, Jakacynzki is a pain broker by night. While his stock may be on the rise, once he steps through the ropes the only numbers he’ll be thinking about are one-two!

In addition to being broadcast on ION Television, all episodes of the series will be available worldwide through video streaming on www.BodogFight.com. Fight fans will get access to previews, recaps, behind-the-scenes exclusives, fighter bios and additional footage only available online.

BodogFight Episode 8 Premieres on ION Television

BodogFight: St. Petersburg Winners Return to Russia for PPV

Plus: Viewers Award $50,000 to BodogFight 'Champ'

For Immediate Release

April 2, 2007

To the victors go the spoils! This is the theme of a special recap episode of BodogFight: St. Petersburg airing Tuesday, April 3 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.

Something was bound to give with 28 deadly mixed martial arts fighters - 14 Americans and 14 Internationals - converging on the imperial capital of Russia to lay claim to global bragging rights. Now the smoke has cleared, revealing which of these men and women have earned the right to return to St. Petersburg to fight at a historic pay-per-view event, BodogFight: Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Lindland 'Clash of the Nations' on April 14.

After a punishing exchange of big kicks and strikes, Russian Red Devil Roman Zentsov proved too much for Kristof Midoux of France. The TKO victory catapults Zentsov onto the PPV's main card where he will face California's Bobby Southworth.

Heavyweights Jarno Nurminen of Finland and Sang Su Lee of Korea went at it for three full rounds with Nurminen awarded the decision victory. He moves on to fight Idaho's Josh 'Buffalohead' Curran on the PPV undercard after the colorful Curran won a three-round decision over Nevada's Roy 'Big Country' Nelson.

Two of the sport's toughest women took to the MMA mat, with Amanda Buckner of Massachusetts getting Indiana's Julie Kedzie in a guillotine and forcing her to submit. However, Kedzie will still represent Team USA against Russia's Julia Berezikova on the undercard, while Buckner will appear on the main PPV card against Hitomi Akano, who used an armbar to beat fellow Japanese fighter Tama Chan.

Dmitri Samoliov fights Arizona's Ray Steinbeiss on the PPV undercard after the Russian came back to earn a draw against Canadian Tyler 'TNT' Jackson.

Ray's brother, Steve 'The Hooligan' Steinbeiss will meet Canada's Bill 'The Butcher' Mahood in a light heavyweight bout on the PPV undercard. Steinbeiss pummeled Jeff 'Big Deisel' Ford into submission, while Mahood scored a first-round TKO over Khalil 'Scorpion Heart' Ibrahim of the United Arab Emirates.

Brazil's Rodrigo Damm will represent Team World after submitting Canada's Black Mamba. Damm would have fought grappler-turned-striker Mike Brown of Florida in a lightweight bout on the PPV undercard, however, an injury means Brown will make way for Santino Defranco of Arizona.

The fighters have done their part now it's time for viewers to decide who will earn a cool $50,000. Viewers who tune in BodogFight: St. Petersburg on ION Television this Tuesday, April 3 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central can vote for their own "BodogFight Champ", with the winning fighter pocketing $50,000. Plus, one lucky voter will win an exclusive BodogFight prize package worth over $10,000!

Voting is open from April 3 - 8, 2007 and the "BodogFight Champ" will be announced, April 9. Visit the award-winning web site www.BodogFight.com for details and stay tuned, because coming April 17th, 2007 BodogFight returns to Costa Rica for a whole new season!

BodogFight Episode 7 Premieres on ION Television

"Buffalohead" Hopes to Graze on "Big Country" in Episode 7 of BodogFight: St. Petersburg

For Immediate Release

March 26, 2007

Whether he's working the grill at an Idaho Denny's or working over opponents in the ring, Josh "Buffalohead" Curran always brings the heat.

The part-time short-order cook will try and make short work of Nevada's Roy "Big Country" Nelson in the first of two heavyweight tilts on this week's episode of the hit mixed martial arts TV series BodogFight: St. Petersburg, airing Tuesday, March 27 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.

"We're thrilled to give Josh the opportunity to show off his skills as a fighter," said Calvin Ayre, BodogFight creator and founder of Bodog Entertainment. "He is an entertainer, a hard worker, and someone viewers will definitely relate to."

The legend of "Buffalohead" began with 6-3, 265-pound Curran's appearance in local toughman tournaments at various Idaho-based casinos.

"[Local fight promoter] Josh Thompson started it," explains Curran. "He said I needed a ring name and came up with 'Buffalohead' and it just stuck."

Curran would go on to solidify his new moniker after a fight by raising his fingers to his forehead to make them look like horns. Now, with a record of 3-1 and help from his Lion's Den trainer Trevor Prangley, this MMA up-and-comer is stampeding his way through the ranks.

Undefeated in six professional fights, Buffalohead's opponent, Roy Nelson, is no pushover, though, and even has his own colorful nickname. According to the 6-1, 255-pound submission specialist, "Big Country" was a name coined by his friend and sparring partner Eric "Big" Pele, who fans can watch fight Aleksander Emelianenko at BodogFight's April 14th pay-per-view "BodogFight: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Lindland, Clash of the Nations".

"Big E saw I was good at wrestling and thought I was from Iowa or something," explains Nelson. "That's where the name 'Big Country' came from, but I was born and raised in Vegas. I'm actually a city boy."

In other BodogFight action, Finland's Jarno Nurminen makes his MMA debut against Korean judo champ Sang Su Lee (2-2). While these two heavyweights may lack colorful nicknames, this fight will not lack intensity, with an opportunity to compete at the April 14th Russian pay-per-view at stake.

Tune in to ION Television for all the action, then visit the award-winning web site www.BodogFight.com for a chance to win $10,000 by voting for your favorite fighter.

March 20, 2007

BodogFightWhen fans tune into ION Television for this week's all-new episode of the hit TV series BodogFight: St. Petersburg they'll have a chance to get into the non-stop action and win $10,000 by voting for their favorite fighters.

"Voting for fighters adds to the fun of watching them do battle."

On Tuesday, March 20 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central four fierce light heavyweight mixed martial arts fighters will be doing their best to attract votes and fend off elimination. In the first featured bout Canada's Bill "The Butcher" Mahood (15-5-1) takes on Khalil "Scorpion Heart" Ibrahim (6-0) of the United Arab Emirates.

The 39-year-old Mahood is a veteran striker who's been a MMA fighter since he was old enough to make a fist, studying Judo, Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do and Kickboxing. Mahood now trains with American Top Team's Denis Kang and Vancouver's Revolution Fight Team.

"The Butcher" hopes to make mincemeat out of his 28-year-old opponent but that won't be easy. Ibrahim, who will be making his pro debut, trains with the world-renowned Abu Dhabi Combat Club.

The second bout features Steve "The Hooligan" Steinbeiss (7-0), a 25-year-old Englishman now fighting out of Arizona, and Jeff "Big Deisel" Ford (7-2) of Colorado.

He's trained with MMA luminaries such as Pat Miletich and Frank Shamrock, and has appeared on VH1's Celebrity Fit Club as a fitness trainer.
