Russians Rule Bodog Fight: Clash of the Nations

Russians Rule Bodog Fight: Clash of the Nations MMA Pay-Per View

For Immediate Release

April 15, 2007

St. Petersburg, Russia - The Russian Red Devils capitalized on their comrades’ support to emerge victorious from Russia’s ICE Palace Arena on Saturday, April 14th in the most anticipated pay-per-view event of the year, BodogFight: Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Lindland, Clash of the Nations.

The star-studded mixed martial arts card lived up to its billing, with Fedor Emelianenko, the #1 ranked heavyweight in the world taking on the #1 ranked middleweight, Matt "The Law" Lindland, in the main event. In the end, the sold out crowd, which included Russian President Vladimir Putin, got what they wanted, as their beloved champion improved to 26-1 after forcing his brave American challenger to tap out in the very first round.

Lindland, now 20-5, started strong by opening a huge gash over Emelianenko’s right eye with his first punch. Controversy followed though, as the 30 year old Russian then used the ropes to prevent and reverse an attempted takedown. Once on top of his opponent, Emelianenko sealed the victory with an inescapable arm bar.

Lindland refused to make excuses after the fight, although the 2000 Olympic silver medalist wrestler was adamant about the fact that he would like a rematch.

"I absolutely, absolutely would like a rematch," said Lindland. "I’m not saying the outcome would have been any different but that’s a much different fight if the referee does what he’s supposed to and I wind up on top and am able to utilize my skills there."

After the fight, Emenianenko’s gloves were auctioned off to raise money for the Calvin Ayre Foundation, with proceeds donated to a local orphanage.

In other MMA action, Emelianenko’s brother, Aleksander, also saw his arm raised after pummeling Nevada’s Eric Pele in a super-heavyweight bout. Both fighters now stand at 10-3. Other Russian victories included Roman Zentsov over France’s Kristof Midoux, Eric Oganov over American Derrick Noble, and Amar Suloev scoring a devastating first round knockout over American Andy Foster.

The upset of the night saw Nick "The Goat" Thompson lift the Bodog Fight welterweight title from former champ Eddie Alvarez. The product of Philadelphia’s famous Fight Factory was TKO’d in the second round, just moments after the outspoken Thompson told legendary ringside announcer Bob "the Colonel" Sheridan he was about to "kick into third gear". True to his word Thompson improved to 31-9, while Alvarez suffers his first defeat in ten fights.

American Josh "Buffalohead" Curran trampled Jarno Nurminen of Finland. Canada’s Bill "The Butcher" Mahood tenderized American Steve Steinbeiss, whose brother Ray outfought Russia’s Dmitry Samoilov. Brazil’s Rodrigo Damm got past American Santino DeFranco, while Damm’s compatriot, Jorge Santiago, upset local favorite Andrei Semenov.

In women’s 135 pound action, American Julie Kedzie temporarily silenced the Russian crowd with a TKO victory over Julia Berezekova, while fellow American Amanda Buckner scored a unanimous decision over Hitomi Akano of Japan.

"The Colonel" Joins BodogFight Commentary Team

"The Colonel" Joins BodogFight Commentary Team

For Immediate Release

April 4, 2007

One of the most famous voices in sports broadcasting is joining the BodogFight family. Veteran play-by-play announcer Bob Sheridan-the man who called the Rumble in the Jungle-will make his BodogFight debut at the much-anticipated pay-per-view BodogFight: Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Lindland, Clash of the Nations.

"The Colonel" will team up with MMA broadcasters Paul Lazenby, Jeff Osborne, and roving reporter Aleks Paunovic for the event, which is set to take place April 14th at the ICE Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.

"We are delighted to welcome 'The Colonel' to our broadcast crew," said Bodog Entertainment Founder Calvin Ayre. "As someone who has been in the fight game since 1966, he brings with him a great deal of broadcasting experience. Fans will instantly recognize his venerable voice, and his exhilarating style is sure to match the excitement of the sport itself."

A master on the microphone, Sheridan is perhaps best known among boxing fans for calling more than 800 championship bouts. His voice provided the soundtrack for some of history's biggest fights, including Muhammad Ali versus George Foreman in Zaire and Ali versus Joe Frazier in Manila. He's been ringside for epic battles featuring Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, and Roberto Duran, and was behind the microphone when Mike Tyson bit off part of Evander Holyfield's ear.

According to Sheridan, the key to his longevity is painstaking preparation, which does not alter with who's in the ring.

"I prepare for every fight today like it was my first, and I prepare for each undercard fight the same way I prepare for the main event," he said.

Fight fans will hear more from "The Colonel" beginning April 17th when BodogFight returns to Costa Rica for a whole new season! For more information, visit www.BodogFight.com.

BodogFight Episode 8 Premieres on ION Television

BodogFight: St. Petersburg Winners Return to Russia for PPV

Plus: Viewers Award $50,000 to BodogFight 'Champ'

For Immediate Release

April 2, 2007

To the victors go the spoils! This is the theme of a special recap episode of BodogFight: St. Petersburg airing Tuesday, April 3 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.

Something was bound to give with 28 deadly mixed martial arts fighters - 14 Americans and 14 Internationals - converging on the imperial capital of Russia to lay claim to global bragging rights. Now the smoke has cleared, revealing which of these men and women have earned the right to return to St. Petersburg to fight at a historic pay-per-view event, BodogFight: Fedor Emelianenko vs Matt Lindland 'Clash of the Nations' on April 14.

After a punishing exchange of big kicks and strikes, Russian Red Devil Roman Zentsov proved too much for Kristof Midoux of France. The TKO victory catapults Zentsov onto the PPV's main card where he will face California's Bobby Southworth.

Heavyweights Jarno Nurminen of Finland and Sang Su Lee of Korea went at it for three full rounds with Nurminen awarded the decision victory. He moves on to fight Idaho's Josh 'Buffalohead' Curran on the PPV undercard after the colorful Curran won a three-round decision over Nevada's Roy 'Big Country' Nelson.

Two of the sport's toughest women took to the MMA mat, with Amanda Buckner of Massachusetts getting Indiana's Julie Kedzie in a guillotine and forcing her to submit. However, Kedzie will still represent Team USA against Russia's Julia Berezikova on the undercard, while Buckner will appear on the main PPV card against Hitomi Akano, who used an armbar to beat fellow Japanese fighter Tama Chan.

Dmitri Samoliov fights Arizona's Ray Steinbeiss on the PPV undercard after the Russian came back to earn a draw against Canadian Tyler 'TNT' Jackson.

Ray's brother, Steve 'The Hooligan' Steinbeiss will meet Canada's Bill 'The Butcher' Mahood in a light heavyweight bout on the PPV undercard. Steinbeiss pummeled Jeff 'Big Deisel' Ford into submission, while Mahood scored a first-round TKO over Khalil 'Scorpion Heart' Ibrahim of the United Arab Emirates.

Brazil's Rodrigo Damm will represent Team World after submitting Canada's Black Mamba. Damm would have fought grappler-turned-striker Mike Brown of Florida in a lightweight bout on the PPV undercard, however, an injury means Brown will make way for Santino Defranco of Arizona.

The fighters have done their part now it's time for viewers to decide who will earn a cool $50,000. Viewers who tune in BodogFight: St. Petersburg on ION Television this Tuesday, April 3 at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central can vote for their own "BodogFight Champ", with the winning fighter pocketing $50,000. Plus, one lucky voter will win an exclusive BodogFight prize package worth over $10,000!

Voting is open from April 3 - 8, 2007 and the "BodogFight Champ" will be announced, April 9. Visit the award-winning web site www.BodogFight.com for details and stay tuned, because coming April 17th, 2007 BodogFight returns to Costa Rica for a whole new season!
