Funk's Corner - Elvis Sharp and The Claw Plan a Party for !BANG! TV

Elvis Sharp is going to throw a "Viva Las Vegas" Party. He is going to have bright lights, high stakes and so much money it is going to burn a hole in his pocket. Thousands of pretty women are going to be waiting out there.

The "Pop Tarts" Lady Kimberly and Miss Vickie are on hand and want to know about Champaign. Elvis Sharp obliges and offers up gambling and partying all night. Elvis says don't worry He will set up everything, it is going to be a good party. Elvis Sharp is European Champion and promises money galore! The "Pop Tarts" leave the ring talking about diamonds and jewelry too.

As Elvis Sharp is strumming the guitar we hear Flyin' Ryan "Air" Mitchell and his valet, Sandii Skye plotting and waiting for Elvis Sharp to get a little drunk so they can get their European Championship Belt back from him.

Flyin' Ryan lets Sandii Skye know Elvis Sharp's music is driving him crazy. Flyin' Ryan is just putting up with it.

The Claw, Claudia Reiff enters the area with a young lady and introduces Elvis Sharp, Flyin' Ryan and Sandii Skye to "Super Model." Elvis Sharp tells Super Model about the Viva Las Vegas Party and she is impressed.

The Claw says a Viva Las Vegas Party is terrific because Super Model has a friend coming all the way in from England, Duchess Louise Henley who is having a birthday and the party could be in her honor, A Viva Las Vegas Birthday Party for Duchess Louise Henley.

Elvis Sharp is ready to move all night long with a "Hunk a Hunk of Burning Love, Viva Las Vegas" Birthday Party for Duchess Louise Henley.

The Claw and The Super Model are busy planning the Birthday Party when the "Pop Tarts" Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki return thinking the party is all for them. The Claw informs The Pop Tarts the Viva Las Vegas Party is not for them, but in honor of the birthday of Duchess Louise Henley who is coming from England to train for wrestling at the Funking Conservatory.

When the "Pop Tarts" Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki find out the party is not for them, all Hell breaks loose at the Funking Conservatory with a violent outbreak of temper by "The Pop Tarts.

Aside from being a Rapster from Baton Rouge Louisiana a "Webbie" is something in between a Mini Reality Show and a wrestling promo.

You have seen them on the major wrestling television shows, Incidents that take place back stage and the production video cameras are there to record the events for presentation through video live or on replay.

Webbies are not promos and they are certainly not wrestling matches. Webbies are mini videos. Their importance is to increase the interest in up coming wrestling matches.

With the popularization of You Tube, My Space and for that matter, !BANG! TV Webbies are increasingly important in the marketing of professional wrestling.

On our website at www.dory-funk.com, we have a special section for "Webbies" featuring the participants in our next !BANG! TV Taping, Support the Troops 16, Ultimate Struggle.

The latest "Webbie" on line on our website is the signing of the contract for the Florida Heavyweight Championship match between Johnny Magnum and Shane Chung and the controversy surrounding the selection of their respective corner people.

Other Webbies on our site include Elvis Sharp Exposing himself to Air Mitchell's Valet, Sandii Skye, A risqué phone conversation between The Claw and Father James Mitchell and a dressing and powder room incident involving The Claw and The "Pop Tarts," Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki.

Funk's Corner - Legend of Dory Funk Sr. Part II

Blood was streaming from my father's head as he tried to regain his balance and come to his feet. A size twelve shoe caught him flush in the face knocking him down again. Dory Funk Sr. tried to fight back but his efforts were futile as big Frank Murdoch continued his ruthless assault.

As I watched this beating take place, every blow was as if it were happening to me and every time my father tried to fight back I was fighting with him inside my heart. I looked at my brother Terry. Tears streamed down his face. He was out of his seat and on the way to my father's side. Mother reached and grabbed him by his arm. I could see her give him the squeeze and pull him back to his seat. I was 11 years old and Terry was 8, Mother was the boss.

The Fabulous Texan, Frankie Hill Murdoch slipped behind and reached for the sleeper hold. My father charged the turnbuckle in the corner of the ring. Murdoch crashed face first in to the corner and fell back into the ring. Dad reached to wipe his face so he could see better. Now his hand was covered in blood. He just stared at his bloody hand. My heart jumped and I nearly fell off my chair. I knew when Dad saw the blood he would go wild and so did the four thousand fans jammed into the Amarillo Sports Arena. They were going crazy cheering my father on to beat the hell out of Frank Murdoch.

Murdoch was back on his feet, but hesitated when he saw the look in dad's eyes. The crowd at the sports arena was going crazy. They knew when Dory Funk saw blood, something was going to happen soon. Murdoch moved in close. My father swung with all he had. You could hear the punch land and see the perspiration fly as Dad connected with a right to Murdoch's chin. Dory Funk picked up the 6' 3" 250 pound Murdoch high over his head and slammed him to the mat to a roar of approval from the fans. Now Funk had Murdoch pinned in the corner landing blow after blow. There was so much excitement and so much noise that he didn't hear the referee telling him to stop it. Murdoch was caught in the ropes. In an effort to pull them apart, the referee grabbed Funk from behind. In a fit of anger, Dory turned and blasted the referee with a forearm to the chin.

It was all over, Dory Funk Sr. was disqualified and Frankie Hill Murdoch was the winner of the match.

The Battle between Dory Funk Sr. and Frankie Hill Murdoch was over. Most of the fans were gone and the clean-up crew was at work in the near empty arena.

Little Dickie Murdoch was throwing the ringside seat pads across the arena watching them sail toward the ring. Terry wanted to join him, but mother would not allow Terry to misbehave.

Now the "Battle of the Night" was about to begin in wrestling promoter Dory Detton's Office. I knew it, the clean-up crew knew it, and the few fans who stuck around to wish Dory Funk Sr. well knew it.

First Ever Texas Death Match, Fritz Von Erich vs Dory Funk Sr.

I jumped out of my seat as my father, Dory Funk Sr. caught Fritz Von Erich with a right cross to the chin and the "Big Man," Fritz Von Erich went down.

At 6' 4" tall and 260 pounds, the former SMU Football Player was the most ominous "Big Man" I had seen in professional wrestling. I was in high school at the time with dreams of becoming a professional wrestler.

The wrestling fans in Amarillo, Texas jumped to their feet as Dory Funk Sr. picked up Fritz' massive leg and applied his own special finishing maneuver, the Spinning Toe Hold.

My father turned on Fritz's leg several times then locked on the hold with Fritz Von Erich flat on his back. Just when everyone in the building though it was all over, Fritz Von Erich reached up from underneath and grabbed the Iron Face Claw and locked it in on the face of Dory Funk Sr.

Both men were in a painful stalemate, Fritz holding the Iron Face Claw and Dory Funk Sr. holding the Spinning Toe Hold. I watched and waited as both men held to their respective holds.

Fritz Von Erich's wrist turned red as blood from my father's head mixed with perspiration, flowed down Fritz' arm and first pooled on his chest then flowed to the wrestling mat. With the Iron Face Claw, Fritz Von Erich was digging his thumb and forefinger into the side of my father's head. Even though Von Erich held onto the Claw, his shoulders were on the mat and the referee counted three on Fritz Von Erich. Dad was out cold.

The referee announced Fritz Von Erich as the winner of the fall but the first man to his feet would be the winner of the match. The Ten count was started by the referee. Both men were trying to get to their feet. At the count of 7, Fritz Von Erich tried to stand up but his knee gave out and he fell to the mat. Dory Funk Sr. was up before the ten count and as a bloody and battered mess was the winner of the match.

We are proud of our military and support our troops around the world. Five of our regulars at the Funking Conservatory are US Military.

Our Funking Conservatory World Champion Johnny Magnum has served on two trips to Iraq and once in Afghanistan. Johnny's wife Sandy is also retired from the US Army.

Flynn' Ryan "Air" Mitchell is currently serving in the US Navy and so is his wife and In Ring Valet, Sandii Skye.

Our Hardcore Champion, Shane Chung is currently serving in the US Navy stationed in South Carolina and commuting to the Funking Conservatory. Shane also has served in Iraq.

My Father, Dory Funk Sr. served in the US Navy in World War II as a Boatswain's Mate aboard LSM 182 in the South Pacific.

All of our shows carry the initial "Support the Troops" logo plus number identification and name of the show.

Support the Troops 16 comes to the Funking Conservatory Sunday May 27th Johnny Magnum defending his Florida Championship against Shane Chung with Gail Kim in Shane's Corner.

Scott D'Amore will have Father James Mitchell in his corner when He returns to !BANG! TV against myself, Dory Funk Jr. in a Revenge Match.

Gail Kim, The Claw, Claudia Reiff and The Pop Tarts, Miss Vicki and Lady Kimberly will be in a four girl tournament for the Funking Conservatory's Women's Championship.

Flyin' Ryan "Air" Mitchell will have Sandii Skye in his corner as he faces Elvis Sharp, Kory Chavis and Blain Rage in a four way Number 1 Contender's Match winner to face Shane Chung for the Hardcore Championship next month.

Professor Gus Miller stood at the front of the West Texas State University Officiating class and repeated, "A good referee will have a flair for the dramatic."

Dr. Jack Walker stood at the front of our Radio / Television commercial writing class and said, "kids and sex sell."

Coach Joe Kerbel came to West Texas State University and molded a team that had won only 2 games in 2 years into Sun Bowl Champions with a 9 and 2 record my senior year.

Working under Coach James Kyle, I did my student teaching coaching the wrestling team at Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas and talked to the kids about team spirit and dedication to goals.

Then I became a professional wrestler working every night of the week driving the Amarillo Territory and facing the likes of Sputnik Monroe, Sir Nelson Royal, Vern Gagne, Lou Thesz and Gen Kiniski.

I often wondered why my father, Dory Funk Sr. insisted that I get a college education before I could become a professional wrestler.

Now as owner of the Funking Conservatory, I am grateful to Dad for his insistence that I have an education.

Gone are the days when a good body and a loud mouth would get you a main event on a wrestling card.

Professional wrestling is in the middle of a technical revolution that will require athletes to have communication skills, marketing skills and financial acumen to deal with the present high tech world we live in.

In addition they still have to be great athletes to perform at a level acceptable to a demanding market offering so many different kinds of entertainment.

In today's world being a professional wrestling star is being a television star. At the Funking Conservatory we have an extensive television training program.

Just as many music video producers came up with the "Mini Movie," Now at the Funking Conservatory we introduce the newest method of developing your wrestling personality through television on the internet with, "The Webbie."

Ric Flair calls it "This Great Sport." Professional Wrestling is athletic, it is dramatic, it is fun to watch and wrestling is a performance unique to itself like no other. My Father, Dory Funk Sr. said, "You must respect this business." He was a performer and an athlete, Dory Funk Sr. was The King of the Texas Death Matches and an Indiana State amateur wrestling champion.

Johnny Magnum is a veteran of two active duty trips to Iraq with the United States Army. Johnny is an Ordained Minister of his Church. Johnny is "Johnny the Builder-Man" owner of "Downing Construction". Johnny is a leader in our community who kids can look up to. Johnny is Married to Sandy and a father of 4 children. Johnny is a powerful man at 6' 2" tall and 255 pounds. Johnny is our Funking Conservatory World Champion.

Now on !BANG! TV 24/7 in a Texas Death Match, Blain Rage and Shane Chung take professional wrestling to the extreme in a match where even Blain Rage's entrance into the ring is daring and spectacular.

The match starts off with some great wrestling moves performed by Dunnellon High School and U.S. Navy amateur wrestler Shane Chung as he takes the early advantage using his wrestling skills.

Blain Rage fights back with an aerial assault missing on a back one and a quarter flip with a half twist but executing a beautiful Hurracurana followed by a running football style kick to the groin.

In the first of four falls, Shane Chung wins with a power bomb from the second rope but in a Texas Death falls don't count and the match continues for three more falls ending with the exciting finish with both men down and counted out on the floor but According to the referee, The Claw, Claudia Reiff, "This is a Texas Death Match and there must be a winner. The first man to return to the ring is the winner of the match."

Funking Conservatory !BANG! TV Results - First Ever in Wrestling, Woman Tar and Feathered

Johnny Magnum was bashed over the head with a chair by Father James Mitchell but still survived to retain his Funking Conservatory World Championship against the challenge of Kory Chavis.

The Claw regained the Women's Championship in a three way against the Pop Tarts, Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki. After The Claw won a disputed decision, Miss Vicki, Lady Kimberly, Father James Mitchell, Blain Rage and Kory Chavis Tar and Feathered the Claw. This is the first time in the history of professional wrestling a woman has been Tar and Feathered.

After the match The Claw could have passed as Big Bird's little sister.

Covered in tar and feathers from head to toe, The Claw said winning the Women's Championship on !BANG! TV was worth it all and thanked her parents who are no longer with her, Jack and Judy Reiff for giving her the courage to follow her dreams of becoming a professional wrestler.

In a Texas Death Match, Blain Rage jumped from a ten foot ladder, landing on Shane Chung who was lying on a table. Both men were knocked out and pinned on the floor. The referee informed us that this is a Texas Death Match and there must be a winner. The first man to enter the ring would be the winner of the match. Blaine Rage was the first to enter the ring and retain the !BANG! TV Championship.

In a match for the European Championship, Flyin' Ryan "Air Mitchell" with Little Miss Sandii Sunshine had things going their way against Elvis Sharp who hails from Memphis, Texas until Flyin' Ryan went to the top turnbuckle and attempted Flyin' Cross Body press but over balanced and Elvis came up on top to gain a three count. Air Mitchell bombarded Elvis with punches bringing Kory Chavis to the rescue. Elvis thanked Kory Chavis only to be on the receiving end of a devastating clothesline by Kory Chavis leaving Elvis to bring himself back to his feet to the applause of the Funking Conservatory Wrestling fans.

In the opening match, a handicap tag team match, 450 pound D.C. Bodyguard splashed Johnny Romano and Lance Alonte and covered both at the same time for the victory.

The next !BANG! TV Taping comes to the Funking Conservatory on Sunday May 27th at 7:00pm. Gail Kim, Scott D'Amore and Father James Mitchell will be there. Funking Conservatory Press Release - Texas Death Match coming to !BANG! TV

Support the Troops 15, "Power of Pain," comes to the Funking Conservatory in Ocala, Florida Sunday April 29th doors open at 6:30 and ShowTime is 7:00pm. Father James Mitchell will be in Kory Chavis' corner as he challenges Johnny Magnum for the Funking Conservatory World Championship. Dory Funk Jr. will be at ringside in support of Johnny Magnum.

In a showdown for the Woman's Championship in a three way contest, The Pop Tarts, Lady Kimberly and Miss Vicki will face each other and The Claw, Claudia Reiff. Lady Kimberly is the defending champion. The Pop Tarts will have the ringside support of Father James Mitchell.

In a Texas Death Match for the !BANG! TV Championship, The Champion, Blain Rage with Father James Mitchell in his corner will face the challenge of the U.S. Navy and Dunnellon's own, Shane Chung.

For the European Championship, Elvis Sharp of Memphis, Texas will be facing the challenge of the U.S. Navy's Flying Ryan "Air" Mitchell with his valet, Little Miss Sandii Sunshine.

Dory Funk Sr. was called the "King of the Texas Death Matches.

The Texas Death Match was invented by, Dory Funk Sr. as a way to settle the issue between himself and the "Master of the Iron Face Claw," Fritz Von Erich.

A Texas Death Match comes to !BANG! TV Sunday April 29th as Blain Rage goes up against Shane Chung.

A Texas Death Match can be one of the most exciting matches in professional wrestling but you must know the rules of a Texas Death Match.

The rules of a Texas Death Match in "Old School" days were as follows:

Texas Death Match Rules

1. No stopping the match because of blood.
2. No count out for fighting outside the ring.
3. There is no disqualification.
4. There is no time limit.
5. Falls don't count, There could be one or a hundred.
6. A fall can take place anywhere in the building.
7. There must be a winner.
8. At the end of a fall, the loser will have a count of ten to return to his feet and continue the match. If he is unable to continue, the match is over and the match awarded to the last man standing.

Sunday April 29th, TNA's Father James Mitchell is coming to the Funking Conservatory's !BANG! TV Taping, Support the Troops 15, "Power of Pain" and will be in the corner of Blain Rage as he faces Shane Chung in a, "Texas Death Match."

In a Women's Championship Match, The Pop Tarts with Father James Mitchell will face The Claw in a three way challenge.

Funking Conservatory Champion, Johnny Magnum will defend his title against the challenge of Kory Chavis. Father James Mitchell will be in Kory Chavis's corner and I will be seconding Johnny Magnum.

Also on the card Flyin' Ryan "Air Mitchell" with Little Miss Sandii Sunshine and "Hunk a Hunk of Burning Love," Elvis Sharp.

Television is the heart of the wrestling business, in fact there are many on the inside of professional wrestling that will tell you 50 % of the value in a professional wrestler is his ability to present his character on television.

At the Funking Conservatory we work to accomplish three goals, Number 1) Safety in professional wrestling. 2) In Ring Performance and 3) Television Performance.

Professional Wrestling as a way of making a living is a privilege. There is no better aerobic exercise to keep your body in shape and in good health over the long run. Injury to yourself or your opponent causes loss of work and loss of investment to the company you are working for.

To make it to the top, your in ring performance skills must be highly refined. Professional wrestling is not a case of somebody giving you something. You must achieve a skill level so that your performance inspires promoters and people in the business to request your services as a wrestler.

Your interviews and portrayal of your character as a speaker on television is where wrestling fans get to know who you are and what you stand for as a professional wrestler. This is where they will learn to love you and learn to love to hate you as a personality in professional wrestling.

At the Funking Conservatory our television training program is the best in the business. Television is used daily as a training tool and extensively in preparation for our !BANG! TV Taping. Our athletes interact with themselves and with stars who are actively earning a living in the wrestling business.

The Amarillo Sports Arena was packed to the rafters. The fire fire department shut down the box office and would not allow any more people into the building. It was the only time I have seen a show start fifteen minutes early because there was no more room for additional wrestling fans.

The Main Event was Dory Funk Sr. vs. Fritz Von Erich in a Texas Death Match. During the show there were two tall and lanky red headed kids 4 and 5 years old running around the sports arena good mannered, but very noticeable. They were the Von Erich Brothers, David and Kevin.

The Texas Death Match led to the Spinning Toe Hold versus the Iron Face Claw where only the two holds were legal followed by the first and only German Blood Match where the winner was the one who first filled his towel with his opponent's blood. Fritz Von Erich vs Dory Funk Sr. was always an epic event in Amarillo.

I broke into the wrestling business after finishing a football career at West Texas State University and it was only natural that I face the biggest and baddest heel ever to come to the Amarillo Territory, Fritz Von Erich. The same two kids, David and Kevin were there that night also, but they had grown up and were tall for their ages of around 7 and 8 years old.

After winning the NWA World Championship from Gene Kiniski in February of 1969 one of my biggest thrills in wrestling came in 1972 when I faced Fritz Von Erich defending the NWA World Championship in Texas Stadium before 26,000 people. David and Kevin were there as teenagers. They were playing football, basketball and participation in track and field at North Dallas High School.

In 1977 just after the debut of David and Kevin into professional wrestling and with Fritz's UHF Wrestling Show coming into the Amarillo Territory on limited cable it was a natural to bring the Von Erich Brothers into the territory to face Myself and my Brother Terry. (Funk Brothers vs the Von Erich Brothers - The Von Erich's were the bad guys, but the teenage girls screamed when they took of their jackets in the ring.)

In 1980 I went to Championship Wrestling from Florida to take the book for the owner, Eddie Graham. David Von Erich was in the territory. He was in preparation to leave the Florida Territory and return home to Dallas and work for his famous father, Fritz Von Erich.

I called Fritz on the phone and explained how much potential David had and what a natural athlete He was. I asked Fritz to leave David with me in the Florida Territory, Explaining to Fritz that it would be beneficial to us to have such a talent to work with and it would also be beneficial to David to have the opportunity to work on top in a territory and be successful where his father had little influence.

Fritz agreed and in the Florida Territory we were off and running with David first as a top heel and later as a top baby face. Good Guy and Bad Guy aside the important thing was David Von Erich was a great worker and developed a huge following of fans.

As a promoter, booker and writer in the wrestling business I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best talkers in the business.

In the Florida and Mid Atlantic territories in the 80's we were blessed to have great interview people working their own style of interview. The first that comes to mind is Ric Flair who spoke of how great his opponent was, referred to professional wrestling as "This Great Sport," and finished off his interview with his trademark, "Whooooo."

In the Amarillo Territory in the 70's Terry Funk led the way often asking to be the first to cut an interview on promo day to put the rest of the talent in the right mood for interviews. Terry's talent on interviews continues today. He is versatile doing the wild and crazy heel interviews calling people names like "Egg Sucking Dog or Anorexic Barbara Busch and at times doing very sincere interviews.

In the old school days of the Amarillo Territory one day Terry called everybody a name he heard in a song, "Nothing but a Junkyard Dog." It wasn't long after that there was a Real Junkyard Dog facing Terry and I in Wrestlemania 2.

In the old Florida Territory Hulk Hogan watched as the Mighty Igor performed his feats of strength then called the Mighty Igor, the Mighty Ignoramus on an interview and we were on the way to capacity business with Hogan vs Mighty Igor.

At the Funking Conservatory, we work on interview skills every day of training. Our current group of athletes have excelled.

I gathered the participants for a discussion of the main event about what would take place that night in the sold out West Palm Beach Auditorium. (Florida Territory, Spring of 1981) We were midway through the show and it was critical that all participants knew what was expected of them.

The semi final, Sweet Brown Sugar and Hacksaw Butch Reed vs The Deaton Brothers managed by Jimmy Kent was in the ring and could be over any minute. There would be a short intermission then the main event would be called to the ring.

Time was critical and the information important.

There was a knock on the door and a security agent slipped his head in and said, "Mr. Funk, There is someone here that insists he gets to speak to you, he says he is a friend of yours.

I said what is his name?

The door pushed open and a graveled voice said, "Dory, Tell these men it's okay, Tell them to let me go."

It was a friend, a dear friend and one of our most loved wrestling fans in South Florida, Mr. Apter, father of professional wrestling's first journalist Bill Apter.

Never a week went by in West Palm Beach that Mr. Apter didn't stop by the dressing room to speak to the wrestlers.

This particular time he was latter than usual, but it was a ritual that was a weekly standard in West Palm Beach. Mr. Apter loved professional wrestling and the wrestlers who performed in the ring.

I smiled and told the security agents it was okay and they immediately released Mr. Apter. He came right to the middle of Big John Stud, Bruiser Brody, David Von Erich, Barry Windham, Mike Graham and myself and shook everyone's hand and let us know how happy he was to be here at his favorite sport, professional wrestling.

Mr. Apter thanked us and wished us a good and safe performance then left the dressing room to enjoy the rest of the show. Mr. Apter was always welcome in the dressing room of the West Palm Beach Auditorium.

Marti and I often wonder the inspiration for our students to become professional wrestlers, then we meet the parents and we know.

I don't know if Mr. Apter was the inspiration for Bill Apter to become a Journalist or if he was Bill's inspiration to become involved in professional wrestling, but I do know for sure how much Mr. Apter loved professional wrestling
and how much pro wrestling loved Mr. Apter.

When it is important in life, time can stand still for a moment to enjoy the company of dear friends.
