Nevada State Athletic Commission releases UFC fighters' pay for Las Vegas card (Canadian Press)

Wed Jan 3, 7:44 PM
By Neil Davidson

(CP) - Chuck (The Iceman) Liddell and Tito Ortiz received a combined US$460,000 in purse money for their UFC 66 mixed martial arts title bout in Las Vegas on the weekend, according to figures provided by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Liddell, the light-heavyweight champion, received $250,000 for his third-round TKO while Ortiz earned $210,000. Both fighters are expected to make considerably more from the show, through bonuses and a slice of the lucrative pay-per-view revenue.

The UFC does not detail fighter pay but president Dana White said before Saturday's show that Liddell and Ortiz were due record MMA paydays. The Las Vegas Review-Journal pegged Liddell's paycheque as more than $1 million. Click here for rest of article

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre sidelined by knee injury (Canadian Press)

Neil Davidson, Canadian Press
Published: Tuesday, January 02, 2007

LAS VEGAS (CP) - UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre has been forced to withdraw from a scheduled title defence next month because of a knee injury.
The UFC says the 25-year-old mixed martial arts fighter from Montreal was hurt training for his 170-pound bout against Matt (The Terror) Serra. The two were to have met Feb. 3 in Las Vegas at UFC 67: All or Nothing.
It was to have been St. Pierre's first title defence since winning the belt from Matt Hughes in Sacramento on Nov. 18.
It marks the second time in recent months that an injury has forced the Canadian to drop out of a fight. St. Pierre was originally supposed to meet Hughes in September, only to be sidelined by a groin problem. (Click here for rest of article)
