“Absolutely Tan” Joey Eastman Recap

Keith begins with the observation that the radio can’t pick up how tanned Joey Eastman is right now, Joey notes that not even the sun can pick up how tanned he is. Joey then states that the IWA Midlothian crowd is the ‘ugliest group of people to ever congregate in one area,’ mentioning the ‘no-eared midgets’ and ‘fat girls with their breasts larger than their stomachs’ in attendance. Barlow asks if a tan will help these sorry people. Joey replies only DEATH can help the fans of IWA Midlothian.

Onto more pressing matters, and will Joey’s lemon and lime pants be this years must-have fashion item? Joey says he reads Cosmo but not GQ as he’s not GAY, and yellow bell-bottoms are the way to go. Joey finishes by asking the fans to put money into his pocket as he’s sick of being on welfare before discussing the forthcoming Chris Candido memorial show TONIGHT in Streamwood Illinois as Promoter Ed Chuman mentnions “you forgot Black Machismio” Words to live by... Check out http://www.midwestwrestling.com

Mike Quackenbush Recap

Mike says how HUMBLED he was by the audience's reception to his Chikara crew at the Ring of Honor show and hopes to be more of a part of the ROH scenery. Dr. Keith asks about the Chikara Pro Pod-Per-View. Mike says he stole the idea from Ricky Gervais and says the PPV is only $1.99 (CHEAP!). Keith is miffed that he can’t get the Podcasts on videotape but wants to support a great alternative and some fantastic CHIKARA characters.

Keith asks if Mike’s five year mission much like Star Trek's five year mission for Chikara is complete? Mike says it is ongoing and says that 2007 will be the biggest year to date for Chikara saying that it’s a colourful alternative to the stagnant WWE product. Doctor talks about his love of Chuck Taylor and Ultramantis Black. A final thanks by Mike Quackenbush to the Chikara Pro gang as they have a long drive, Keith's final question who gets to control the radio on the ride home? Not Jigsaw. Check out http://www.chikarapro.com/ and http://wigglysworld.com/chikara/Site/chikara.html for the Pod Per View and for shirtless Wiggly

Jack Evans Recap

Jack introduces himself as the ‘man, the myth, the legend, Jack Evans from the heavens.’ Keith asks if Jack feels any less-American for the time he’s spending in Japan. Jack says that’s no bad thing as the Japanese people behave more properly and they crazy better toast, ‘you lose your leg, you eat this toast, you’re fine.’ Keith asks if the leg regenerates? ‘It’s magical’ Jack replies.

Keith asks what he’s most looking forward to in Dragon Gate? ‘Kobe Beef.’ Jack talks about being part of the devilish heel faction, the Muscle Outlaws. Jack promises to return from Japan in two months ‘bigger, badder and better than ever before,’ before some ZOMBIE talk. They discuss zombie location, Keith points to sidekick Bill Barlow's "where the hell is Bridgeport t-shirt?" Talk of Bridgeport Zombies ends the interview.

Mark Briscoe Recap

One half of the ROH tag team champions, Keith asks how Mark is after the botched shooting star press in Detroit on WrestleMania weekend. Mark says the tests came back fine on his head, but he found out that he had a broken neck at some point that had since repaired itself. Keith wonders if it’s the healing powers of BriscoePhysics. He also thinks his shoulders popped out of joint, ‘but that’s alright.’ Mark says he was ready to get back in the ring after it happened but was taken to hospital and tells a story where he got violent in the ambulance, and even Sugarfoot Alex Payne could not calm him down.

Dr. Keith asks about Briscoe wrestling the Chikara guys at the Chicago show. Mark puts them over as being better than anyone he’s seen at that style. Keith talks about FIP barroom brawl in Florida with Madman Pondo & NECRO BUTCHER~! and suggests Mark wear some headgear, perhaps the Hulk Hogan fist helmet? Mark thought Keith said fish with both agreeing that a fish helmet would be far more appropriate.

The good doctor then discusses his hatred for Shane Hagadorn over Shane’s attempt to put chewing gum over the doctors notes. Mark agrees to rough Shane up alongside his brother. Keith finishes asking if the Briscoe’s intend to challenge again for the GHC Junior Tag Team belts, before going off to find the beer store. Good stuff. Check out http://www.briscoebrothers.com/

*** *** ***

Plus: Keith and Bill's thoughts on the ROH and IWA-Shows, how great are Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin when they are not involved in tomfoolery? Why are there always parks around wrestling shows? Why don't more wrestlers use the swing sets? How great was the Joey Ryan vs. Chuck Taylor match at the IWA-MS show (really great)? Fun stuff direct from both shows and if that’s not all - gourd flute versions of Prince songs. Thank you.

TNA Wrestling pulls its talent from Ring Of Honor and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla

By Art Shimko
shimko_7@hotmail.com

-- Figure 4 Weekly [www.f4wonline.com] reports today that TNA has pulled its talent from Ring Of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and other indy promotions that sell DVDs with TNA wrestlers' appearances. At press time ROH has not issued a statement regarding this matter and it's obvious and not a coincidence that TNA put their foot down once ROH announced a PPV deal yesterday. Now of course TNA has every right to do this as their wrestlers are contracted but it will be interesting to see how this will affect the indy landscape, promotions will have the opportunity to push newer faces on their shows but at the same time wrestlers like Alex Shelley, Samoa Joe, Homicide, Low-Ki, Christopher Daniels, etc. help draw more fans to indy shows plus these wrestlers have had long relationships with places like ROH, PWG, IWA-Mid South, JAPW, CZW and other promotions that will end effective immediately.

Below is a statement released on PWG's message board:

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla ends agreement with TNA Wrestling
By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer

Los Angeles, CA - Generally, the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) news releases have been light-hearted yet informative, however that will not be the case on this occasion. Since our humble beginnings in July 2003, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has booked employees of TNA Wrestling to appear on our shows, in what can only be considered a successful relationship for all parties involved. Both companies experienced tremendous growth during this time period, admittedly with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla aided infinitely more so by TNA Wrestling than the other way around, and the relationship between the two companies has been affable. On April 24, 2007, TNA Wrestling presented Pro Wrestling Guerrilla with a contract that would prevent TNA Wrestling employees from appearing on DVDs sold through or distributed by any third parties. Because this would include long-time partner Highspots.com, as of May 3, 2007, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has severed all ties with TNA Wrestling.

Since February 2004, Highspots.com has been a major contributor to the success of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, by helping us to increase the popularity of our company through Highspots.com production and distribution of our DVDs. Since TNA Wrestling presented us with the contract on April 24, we have considered every possible solution, from opting out of our contract with Highspots.com, self distribution of events featuring TNA Wrestling employees (both of which, to their credit, Highspots.com was agreeable with), to releasing DVDs without the matches of TNA Wrestling employees through Highspots.com. Each solution, except one, was either financially irresponsible, meant higher costs for the fans, or would greatly compromise the quality of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as a whole. Therefore, we have been forced to end our business relationship indefinitely.

Because of this situation, TNA Wrestling employees Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will not be appearing at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's DDT4 Tag Team Title Tournament on May 19 & 20. We at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla would like to apologize to Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, who along with Frankie Kazarian, were not simply employees, but part of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla family. We would also like to apologize to Samoa Joe, Low Ki, AJ Styles, and Christopher Daniels, whom we had booked for upcoming Pro Wrestling Guerrilla events. We would also like to thank Homicide, Austin Aries, Petey Williams, and all those previously mentioned for their hard work and professionalism as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla wrestlers.

And most importantly, we would like to apologize to our fans, who have come to enjoy seeing TNA employees both at our live events and on our DVDs. Your appreciation and support gave the TNA employees a chance to wrestle at a level they often time are unable to. We hope you can understand that this was not an easy decision to make, but we did what we feel was best for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla now, and in the future. Later today, we will provide updated information regarding the DDT4 Tag Team Title Tournament, including the last team, more non-tournament matches, and the final DDT4 first round matches!

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING PHENOMENON RING OF HONOR INKS STATESIDE TELEVISION DEALS

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING PHENOMENON RING OF HONOR INKS STATESIDE TELEVISION DEALS

WITH iN DEMAND, TVN AND ECHOSTAR

PPV/VOD Distribution Deals Bring ROH into 50 Million Households

New York, May 3, 2007 - Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH), in association with G-Funk Sports & Entertainment, has concluded programming and distribution deals for PPV and VOD wrestling cards with iN DEMAND Networks, TVN and EchoStar Communications Corporation’s DISH NetworkTM, making the critically-acclaimed ROH brand available for the first time ever to approximately 50 million American households. The agreement calls for a card every 60 days from shows both stateside and abroad, and will premiere July 1. A total of six cards are planned throughout ‘07/’08. ROH owner Cary Silkin made the announcement today with G-Funk’s President Ken Gelman. The debut event, entitled “Respect Is Earned,” will be taped May 12 in New York City from the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center, and will feature a glistening array of talent from Japan, England, the U.S. and Mexico.

Long revered by a loyal underground fan base, the Philadelphia-based ROH—currently seen on Canadian, British and Japanese TV—appeals to the disenfranchised wrestling fan fed up with storylines which seem to take precedence over the kind of powerful ring competition that ROH specializes in. ROH, in fact, is seen to have the highest level of athleticism in its field today, which recently culminated in a sweep of the 2006 Wrestling Observer awards for “Most Outstanding Wrestler,” “Best Brawler,” “Best Major Wrestling Show” (ROH took four of its Top 10) and “Best Booker.”

“Fans around the world now know that our brand of action is, indeed, the highest-flying, hardest-hitting most daring and acrobatic action presented today,” says Mr. Silkin. “We are thrilled that we can finally show a televised audience what our crowds have known for the last six years…that ROH harkens back to an earlier era of wrestling where authenticity still counted for something. There’s a magic at our shows that I, as a wrestling fan, had all but given up on.”

G-Funk Sports and Entertainment will be handling all marketing and promotion for the wrestling programs, including creation and launch of an affiliate website on May 15, www.rohaffiliates.com, which will contain easy-to-implement marketing materials and all event information. Each show will also be supported by a range of targeted national consumer advertising and promotion.

According to Mr. Gelman, “Ring Of Honor already has the respect and enthusiastic following of legions of fans around the world through their live events, but represents a fresh new entry into the world of televised wrestling. These distinctive programs will prove a welcome change-of-pace for audiences and a popular new option for cable operators and satellite providers as they expand their transactional offerings.”

--Erick Stevens and Chris Daniels went to a draw. After the match, Daniels quit and wished he never returned to ROH.

--Brent Albright won the Four Way Dance, pinning BJ Whitmer after an Exploder Suplex. Homicide and Jimmy Rave were also in the match. It was said to be "Stiff," whatever that means.

--Austin Aries defeats Rocky Romero with the 450 Splash. Afterward, Roderick "Pinchable Cheeks" Strong came in for the beat down on Aries, but Delirious was in to make the save.

Announcement: ROH returns to Chicago on June 23 with the return of Marafuji AND Bryan Danielson v. KENTA. His matches just aren't the same without the high pitched japanese girl screams.

--Morishima defeats Shingo with a suplex. Might not be the Back Drop Driver.

--Intermission probably took place.

--Bobby Dempsey v. Sugarfoot is set. Tank Toland is out. It turns into Toland v. Sugarfoot, and Sugarfoot is mauled. Mauled like a bear. Tank Toland wins. Toland now offers to train Bobby Dempsey.

--Roderick Strong defeats Jack Evans with a crucifix into something. I believe it killed Evans. Then Romero joined in on a beating and Delirious made the save again, cutting a promo.

--Current Match: ROH Tag Team Titles. The Briscoes defeat The Motor City Machine Guns. (I would like to point out that in the opening moments of the match, Chris Sabin dove into his corner to retreat and was petted by Shelley as a means of comfort.) This is all my friend had to say: "Fucking awesome match." Evidently it lived up to the hype. Not sure what was the finishing move that put the MCMG away.

Ok. I'm going to ask this if you guys because he'll check out the board later: PLEASE put a "Thank you Guff" in one of your posts so that he can read it and feel loved. The ROH Board (before going down) wasn't putting out results and I had to get ahold of him and ask. It wasn't pre-planned and i'm sure a few of my messages distracted him from enjoying the show. So give him some love, and when he reads he might be able to clear up some stuff others might not clear up. Gracias.

--Main Event: Colt Cabana makes Adam Pearce submit. That's all I got.

PRO WRESTLING: BIG ASS THURSDAY UPDATE~! 4/26/07

By Art Shimko
shimko_7@hotmail.com

-- Tons of news and notes from the past week...

WWE
-- This weekend Steve Austin's upcoming action flick The Condemned will be in theaters, he appeared on Howard Stern and did a live text chat Monday night. Lots of reviews are in for The Condemned and it's a mixed bag of opinions although not many are in favor of the movie, here's a sample:
- Originality is loser in WWE’s death match
- Movie 'condemns' audience to torturous viewing
- Two middle fingers up for The Condemned
- WWE star has something new to prove in 'The Condemned'
- Stone Cold Heats Up
- Bottom Line: D-grade "Running Man" ripoff

-- Here's an Austin interview on Sports Illustrated's site.

-- Last week WWE dropped Deep South Wrestling as a developmental territory after reports that the operation was in complete disarray. Vince McMahon had a shit-fit about the situation and decided to drop all developmental territories including Ohio Valley Wrestling. Fortunately McMahon was talked out of dropping OVW and it looks like all DSW trainees will be shipped to Steve Keirn's school in Florida. Meanwhile, Jody Hamilton has decided to shut down the DSW promotion.

-- Randy Orton's acting like a rock star these days... or more like an asshole. Orton was sent home last week from the European tour after he trashed a hotel room, the estimated damages were said to be between $30,000-$50,000. Man, this guy must've been going through a (supposed) roid rage or something. Orton has not been suspended as of yet although he was fined and it looks like he'll certainly do the job this weekend at Backlash in a four-way for the WWE title which could be one of many jobs he'll be doing for some time. With Vince paranoid about firing talent and ending up on TNA it looks as if Orton is secure in WWE... for the time being. [source for info on last two items: Figure 4 Weekly newsletter www.f4wonline.com]

-- Speaking of Backlash, Casey, Euan and myself did a preview podcast for this mundance PPV. Casey and I also discuss current news in the MMA world.

-- An interview with Vince McMahon about pay-per-view business.

-- WWE will be releasing a 2-DVD "Ladder Match" set, you can see the match listing here.

-- Batista left quite the impression with fans at an autograph session in Wolverhampton, England. Batista was said to be jet-lagged and what would normally be a two-hour session was cut to an hour. One youngster had anticipated meeting the former world and tag champ but instead was disappointed afterwards, his father stated: “Kyle got a ticket and couldn’t sleep the night before, he was so excited at meeting Batista and he had the afternoon off school. All his mates were telling him how jealous they were. “But when he got there we were told Batista would only be signing WWE merchandise. We queued for nearly two hours and he signed a WWE book, didn’t even look at him or say a word and that was it. His mum was trying to take a picture of the two on the mobile phone but his bouncers kept standing in the way to stop it. “And he refused to sign a birthday card that Kyle had taken in because it is his birthday in three weeks. “I think it is absolutely disgraceful for a man who is loved by so many kids to behave like this. We go down to the Wolves training ground all the time and they can’t do enough for us. If they can make the effort I don’t see why a jumped-up bloke in tights can’t do the the same. Kyle couldn’t stop crying.”

-- On Tuesday Mickie James won the Women's title at a house show in Paris against Melina and Victoria when she pinned Victoria for the win. Apparently Victoria didn't kick out on the three-count as she was supposed to, and a few matches later Melina won the title back from Mickie. Surprisingly, WWE made note of the title switch.

-- Super Crazy was injured at a weekend show in Oberhausen, Germany during a tag match. "Super Crazy landed awkwardly and twisted his knee during a match," said Dr. Ferdinand Rios. "I agree with the trainer's original assessment that Super Crazy has a torn ligament in his left knee. We aren't sure if he tore his ACL or MCL so we have scheduled an MRI for later this week.

-- Cade and Murdoch shoot... or maybe work-shoot on internet fans... do these clowns even get internet access in their trailers?

-- Balls Mahoney will be appearing on Sci Fi Channel's Who Wants to Be a Superhero? this summer as he will help critique and inspire these costumed crusaders in their battles with the show’s villain, Dr. Dark.

-- Philadelphia police officer Shawn Goodstone has been suspended and will lose his job for stealing two WWE action figures from a Rite Aid in West Kensington last month.

-- WWE is suing Dale Gagne who runs shows under the AWA banner for copyright infringement. WWE purchased AWA trademarks from Verne Gagne in 2003, WWE also cites that Dale Gagne (real name: Gagner) dropped the "R" from his last name in order to allegedly make like he was related to former AWA promoter Verne Gagne. You can read Dale's response to the suit here.

-- WWE will be reporting its first quarter earnings in a conference call on 5/3 at 11AM EST, participants can call 800-894-5910 (conference ID: WWE).

-- J.R.’s Back With Plenty to Say!

-- Flair is taking fight with money manager to court

-- Michelle McCool measures up her competition

TNA/ROH/CZW/INDIES
-- Sean Christopher Haire, who got punched out during a scuffle in front of a Hilton Head Island bar last month, was charged on Monday with felony high and aggravated assault and battery. Juan Hamilton Brantley, the guy who punched Haire in the eye, was also arrested for the same charges, both men remain in the Beaufort County Detention Center. Capt. Toby McSwain of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office stated, "It's a little surprising that the court has issued warrants to both of them, but I guess the judge listened to both sides of the story and couldn't determine who the primary aggressor was."

-- Alex Marvez's lastest column on "Dr. Death" Steve Williams.

-- A card for the Hogan/Wight Memphis show on Friday was finally released.

-- Two-time NASCAR champ Tony Stewart recently compared his sport to pro wrestling on his Sirius Satellite Radio Tuesday night when discussing how NASCAR officials use bogus caution flags to fix races: "It's like playing God," he said on his Sirius Satellite Radio program. "They can almost dictate the race instead of the drivers doing it. It's happened too many times this year." Stewart, who said he was fighting a fever and left the two-hour show early, went on to say fans are complaining about debris cautions and NASCAR isn't listening. "I guess NASCAR thinks, 'Hey, wrestling worked, and it was for the most part staged, so I guess it's going to work in racing, too,'" he said. "I can't understand how long the fans are going to let NASCAR treat them like they're stupid before the fans finally turn on NASCAR. "I don't know that they've run a fair race all year." NASCAR's response: "NASCAR has been running races since 1948, and we place the safety of the drivers at the top of the list," spokesman Jim Hunter said. "We have more people and more resources than ever officiating our races. The safety of the drivers is our first priority. It has always been that way and will continue to be that way.

-- Footage of Christian Cage against Abyss from last year's TNA Lockdown PPV was shown on this week's episode of FOX's House.

-- Austin Starr has been suspended from TNA for 90 days after he questioned the reason for filming a vignette on his day off. After arguing and pressing the issue, Starr eventually cooperated and agreed to filmed the vignettes but TNA was so annoyed with his attitude that they laid down the law making an example out of Starr by sending him home. [source: Figure 4 Weekly newsletter www.f4wonline.com]

Kingston/CZW, Gilberti arrested, Foley at MIT, WWE injuries, Cena races, Naked women wrestling, ROH, PWG, Rogan interview, UFC press, Baroni arrest

By Art Shimko
shimko_7@hotmail.com

-- Tons of Pro Wrestling/Mixed Martial Arts news from the last week...

PRO WRESTLING NEWS

-- Combat Zone Wrestling is involved in a feud, but it's not with another wrestling federation, it's with some of CZW's fanbase and some of its wrestlers. On Saturday night at CZW's Out With The Old, In With The New show following the Chris Hero/Eddie Kingston Loser Leaves Town match, owner John Zandig came out to get into it with Kingston following his win over Hero. Kingston left the ring and Zandig ended up "firing" Kingston from the company, later on Zandig came out "shooting" on the fans, particularly criticizing "5 to 10 people" on the CZWFans message board who he felt leave negative posts about the company bringing everyone down.
First off, it more than 5-10 people (as seen in this thread which is one of many) bitching about how shitty CZW's quality has been as far as booking run-in after run-in to finish matches, bringing in no-name no-talent wrestlers while pushing out wrestlers fans actually want to see and other dipshit ideas.
I haven't been to a CZW show since December 2006, and before that I was at maybe two or three shows throughout last year which is the least number of CZW events that I've attended. I have not decided to boycott the product entirely yet I'm not sure when I'll be at another show, this sentiment is shared by many fans on the board who feel cheated and shat upon by an owner who instead of listening to some feedback from fans just looks the other way thinking that such criticism is just negative internet ranting.
Eddie Kingston later left a two-part YouTube interview on all that went down Saturday night, it's since been taken down by Kingston's request but I did get to see it and some points included:
- Kingston arrived at the building early Saturday and was asked by wrestlers in the back if he was talking to Tod Gordon of PWU. Kingston said the last time he talked to Gordon was last summer when he and some members of BLK OUT (Sabian, and Joker) were to work for PWU.
- Kingston saw on the sheet that there were run-ins booked in his match with Hero which he shot down. He was then approached by Zandig and told that he would clothesline Kingston in the ring afterwards, Kingston said ok.
- After the match, Kingston told security that his hand was numb and to tell Zandig not to clothesline him, Zandig then suggested that he slap Kingston. Kingston saw this as an insult and later questioned why a supposedly "retired" wrestler who's not involved in this feud would come out and steal the heat from Kingston and Hero's moment. Kingston left the ring and later heard he was "fired" from a company that he wasn't even contracted with as he left the building.
- Kingston also confirmed the events that transpired resulting in Jigsaw also leaving the company that night as reported on Declaration Of Independents. Jigsaw wanted to drop the Jr. Heavyweight title to Vortekz clean, run-ins again were suggested and Jigsaw has to politic to drop the title without any screwjob finish. Jigsaw was told he would be needed for this year's Best Of The Best show, then it was announced in the ring that the loser of the match would not be in Best Of The Best which not only confused Jigsaw but made him feel as if he was forced out of the company, Kingston also noted that the Chikara-CZW relationship was rocky from the start and that the Chikara wrestlers felt like outsiders in the CZW locker room. Kingston was classy when he said no matter who much you hate the product and/or one person (being Zandig of course) not to take it out on the boys and boycotting the shows takes money out of the boys' pockets. The only thing with that is that ONE PERSON is approving of the goofball shit going on in that ring an as hard as the wrestlers work it's hard to have to sit through nonsensical booking and storylines and wrestlers who don't know how to get themselves over...
Well I'm not sure what's going on with this company, I may not be going until Cage Of Death this December unless I hear or read that the company's shows are getting better. The whole deal with Jig and Kingston really puts a sour taste in my mouth, Zandig and company need to take their heads out from their asses and figure something out. A new booker? Wrestlers (not necessarily big names) who can work the crowd as well as match? It's more than one thing that needs to be fixed, but first things first: Promoters should not ever insult their fanbase, you know, the folks who are willing to put money in your pocket for a decent product.

-- Glen Gilberti (aka WCW's Disco Inferno) was arrested in an illegal gambling operation in Roswell, GA Monday night. Along with Dan Tyre, a homeowner who was running high-stake poker games in his residence, Gilberti face commercial gambling charges which is a felony; in total 27 people were arrested. There's also a dispute about how much players had to pay in order to play, "All the more serious stuff they're talking about, that's circling around $10,000 buy-ins, it's a bunch of garbage," said Troy Gibson, one of those arrested. But the Roswell Police Department believe that indeed was the buy-in amount and they retrieved $45,000 at the scene.

MIXED MARTIAL NEWS

-- The New York Post has an interview with Joe Rogan talking about his stand-up career and thoughts on UFC: It's already eclipsed boxing in terms of pay-per-view dollars. The real question is can it eclipse football!? Can it eclipse soccer? I think the answer to that is yes. It's a more exciting sport. The UFC has had problems in the past getting guys from overseas. There's not just the UFC, there's also Pride, a huge international organization that a lot of people believe has the best fighters in a couple of different weight classes. But now the UFC purchased Pride. We're going to get to see incredible match-ups now that weren't available just six months to a year ago.

Two brothers who fought on the show had thousand dollar checks from Cory that bounced, he also got money from sponsors for a bogus upcoming event, even UFC fighter Andrei Arlovski who signed autographs got stiffed for $7,500 but the lowest of the low was that Cory's check for the event's insurance premium bounced so any fighters seeking medical treatment will have to pay out of their pocket because of this dipshit. A background check on Cory showed that he's a convicted felon with a long rap sheet and crimes including possession of forged instruments, writing bogus checks, and jumping bail. Cory or his wife wouldn't comment to the media.

-- The Nevada State Athletic Commission changed the match result of Nick Diaz and Takanori Gomi's Pride fight from February to a "no-contest" after Diaz tested postive for Delta-9-THC (the shit in pot that gets you high as a kite). Diaz is suspended until 8/24 (six months from the date of his last fight) and was fined $3,000 (20% of his purse), it was also determined by NSAC Chair Dr. Tony Alamo that Diaz was high when he fought and that helped him win. Diaz replied, "I wasn't under the influence when I was fighting. I don't abuse drugs normally; it was a one-time thing. It was very embarrassing for me to test positive."

AS I SEE IT 4/9: Another walk in the e-mail forest...

AS I SEE IT
Bob Magee
Pro Wrestling: Between the Sheets
PWBTS.com

It's Monday, which means it's time to take a walk through the e-mail forest again.

Oh look, deep in the forest...is another troll. Let's go look.

From Michael Elias:

"I'm responding to your articles. Yes, I’ve read them, and it is obvious that you’re against TNA. Instead of bad-mouthing TNA you should do it to WWE and make a list of addresses of the products from their commercials. It amazes me that you took the time to make to look up each and every advertiser and made a list of it, from every and all commercials that appeared on Impact. That looks to me like you want to cause trouble for TNA....

No, I'm trying to get them to remove an inappropriate and possibly illegal arrangement with one of their independent contractors where they restrict him from taking jobs with a particular company desiring to employ him as an independent contractor...solely because TNA is jealous of the Internet success of the other company.

"....Why? You bad-mouth and nit-pick like those WWE fans/marks who will agree with everything WWE comes up with. Why don’t you talk about the stupid Ron Simmons gimmick? Only Vince McMahon thinks it’s funny. Gee lets have him walk around saying the same thing every time....

You've obviously not read my column over the last year. Let's see...I've complained about the following items within WWE: lunchtime suicide skits on their website where children can view them, Vince McMahon "booking God", Vince McMahon's WWECW, Paul E. pretending again he's Jesus Christ (or at least Jim Jones) with his cult leader crap, the selectively enforced Wellness Policy and WWE's "non-suspension suspensions", and the Wrestlecrap classic of "Rosie" vs. "The Donald".

As for Ron Simmons, he earned his chops a long time ago. After all these years, if he can get over with a catchphrase, good for him.

"...When you have Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler going to the hall of fame even though they’re still on Raw every week...

If you have any doubt whatever that Jim Ross belongs in any Hall of Fame anyone chooses to put him in, you're a stark raving troll.

"...Don’t you guys think John Cena sucks? Get rid of him already. Enough is enough. TNA does more in one hour than WWE does in two. Why does Raw have to go over-time? Can’t those idiots finish everything by 11? Maybe if they’d stop replaying everything that happens every couple of minutes. At least Triple H isn’t around to do those 45 minute promos anymore. Oh yeah, but Vince is. At least TNA is trying hard to reinvent wrestling...."

Re-inventing wrestling? Snicker....chuckle....Bwahahahahahaha....

They are? By re-using every gimmick WWF/E has used over the last 30 years? For example, Jay Lethal playing Randy Savage? Yup...that's a 100% adrenaline rush for me. In truth, its cheaper and more effective than sleeping pills if you ask me. Plus no one will die from watching too much Jay Lethal. Before someone writes me to tell me, yes, I know Jay did Savage impressions with friends before and after shows. Forget Lethal becoming Savage. Give me the Jay Lethal I see in Jersey All Pro Wrestling. He's a damned good talent and a nice young man who deserves better.

"I'm sick of the term sports entertainment. It’s WRESTLING! The X Division has done a lot of good things for wrestling. At least TNA doesn’t have the stupid Kennedy gimmick. Gee, a wrestler who wants to be a ring announcer. Wow. (Sarcasm.) Don’t get me started on The Boogey Man. I don’t have a problem with ROH. I think it’s great that you support them. Instead of being upset that TNA is popular and ROH isn’t, perhaps you should suggest to them about putting on a Pay-Per-View event. The fans would like that."

Yup, there's sure something wrong with the "Mister Kennedy" gimmick. It's actually over with fans. As for the Boogeyman, I've made clear how many times I hate the gimmick. But you apparently didn't read that column, since it didn't have the letters T-N-A in it.

"I was a big WCW fan and the bisness that people like you had towards the WWF/E was around back then.

Might want to try a dictionary before you write. The word you were looking for, instead of "bisness" (which itself is misspelled) is actually "b-i-a-s-e-d".

"An example, David Arquette and Vince Russo both win the WCW World title, you 'wrestling journalists' complain. But months earlier, Vince McMahon won the WWF World title and nobody complained.

That’s not fair. They’re disgracing the ECW name. If Vince McMahon is such a genius then how did he mess up on the WCW vs. WWF storyline? Any fan off the streets could’ve booked it better. Lock Down is an all steel cage match PPV. Nobody has done that. Plus tag team wrestling has always been better at TNA than in WWE. America's Most Wanted, Triple X, The Naturals, 3 Live Kru, so many good teams. So many good matches. You should start giving credit where it's due."

Again, if you've ever actually read my columns, beyond looking for any set of 10 words strung together that dares to suggest that anyone from TNA is a lesser lifeform than Jesus Christ himself... you'd see that as an original ECW fan, I've been all over WWECW from the very beginning. Try reading a few columns, dipshit, and see for yourself.

Again, if you had ever bothered reading my columns, you'd also see that I hate the Boogeyman more than you do. You'd also have seen...if you'd ever read my columns, you'd see that I bitched about the way McMahon's ego made him ruin what could have been the more lucrative angle in wrestling history...WCW vs. WWF/E.

So for God's sake, stop being so selective and actually read a column that doesn't have the word TNA in it.

From Australia's Adam Porrett:

"I come from Australia, I don't get a lot of wrestling promotions available on cable down here compared to you guys. We only get RAW, SmackDown!, ECW, and some TNA PPV'S every now and then. So naturally I am one with the WWE and I always will be.

The people that send hate mail to you because they think you have no right to express your thoughts on wrestling are assholes, nothing but assholes. They fail to understand that the wrestling business is different from other businesses. The promoters are big people in the business, the wrestlers are big people in the business, but we the fans are perhaps the biggest people in this business. Because we are the people who buy the tickets, buy the PPV'S, and watch the shows.

People must understand that the fans are the people that make or break wrestling promotions. We are a major part of the business and it is our right as the people who watch the stuff to express our opinions on what we think is good, and what we think is crap. It doesn't matter whether you've actually wrestled before, it doesn't matter if you're an expert, if you know what you're talking about, and you care for the business, say what you want. If anyone doesn't like that they can kiss my ass."

Perhaps you'd like to offer some help to the above reader....know a good reading teacher or a therapist he can consider?

From Jeff Costa:

"I got a bunch of ROH DVD's and with the exception of some undercard guys that maybe shouldn't be on the shows they seem to have a better product than TNA in my opinion (for what it's worth). Maybe some of the guys they use underneath help with the ring and do other things to keep the budget down a bit and I can understand that, so they use them on the shows as a favor in return (I figure) as they looked pretty green.

But otherwise the use of talent and some was the same, but looks better in ROH. I'll have to agree with your assessment that TNA protecting Joe's bookings in the way they have done it may not be in their best interest when pushing Joe.

I understand the mentality of protecting the talent but that is simpler to do by discussing his use with the bookers and coming to reasonable terms that Joe himself is happy with as it is his career ultimately and I'm sure as a professional he is capable of making the right decisions as far as his 'use' and 'finishes' as his career building had gone fine already without interference or having an exclusive booking arrangement with any part-time promotion such as TNA which does not provide him with full time work.

Unlike one of your other readers I do have qualifications in the wrestling industry to make this assessment and appreciate your view as a writer/long time wrestling fan and having promoted hundreds of shows through the years understand the value of the customers satisfaction with the product. I think the situation in TNA is one of needing control but not providing enough work to provide an atmosphere for the talent to be comfortable giving full time control to a part time situation with no guarantees and an unstable booking atmosphere with low TV Ratings. That would make anyone uncomfortable in an already unstable work environment that pro wrestling provides."

I couldn't have said it better myself...and see, folks, before the TNA trolls send me more hate mail next week, you can see that yes, people that ARE in wrestling (not the backyarders who write me to impress me with their "credentials" I can't finds anywhere online at all) who agree with me at least somewhat, or who disagree with other elements of it, but can do so in a literate manner.

From Jason Frost:

"While in alot of ways I can understand your frustration, there is pretty much very little you can do to change TNA even if they did get rid of Russo. You see the strategy you seem to want both them and the McMahon version of ECW to go for is good for a company like ROH whose only form or revenue is DVD sales and live attendance but both companies are driven by Pay Per View buys and TV ad revenue so they are actually doing things right. It might be bastardizing the business in the minds of the IWC but that's just the way it goes.

You made the comment that TNA needs the ROH fan base to survive. The fact is TNA already had that fan base, as did Wrestling Society X when it came out. The problem is: there aren't that many of those and most of them don't have Neilsen boxes so they don't matter too much in ad revenue.

The WWE last night filled a football stadium with 80,000 people last night for Wrestlemania on a card which on paper generally was not that exciting. WCW did it for years by playing off of the WWE's success.

The key to success in the TV wrestling business is making those people who watch sports entertainment but might not know everyone's name on the roster or the lineages of the titles front and back to sit on their butts and stop flipping through the channels. Most of those people still consider TNA to be just 'minor league WWE' and never even heard of Ring of Honor. TNA is attempting to draw those fans on name recognition, unfortunately most of the names TNA had were on downturns in their WWE career so it made a slight impact but not a huge one. If TNA does ever get on the level of fan base as WWE it will not be on the in-ring action and the brass of the company knows that as does Spike TV. It will be on either getting a huge ex-WWE main event star in their prime (which I don't see happening) or on some crazy publicity stunt giving the company main stream exposure. It might be a sad reality but
that's how the TV business works.

Sure helped them a lot with Kurt Angle, didn't it?

Since TNA hasn't given in and given fans what they want as of yet...If you feel that TNA is acting in a manner contrary to what you want them to do...just like any other company...with any other product... let TNA know that you'll no longer be spending the money you used to spend on TNA products; and will now be spending that money on Ring of Honor DVDs, live shows, and other revenue sources for that company.

It sounds like at least SOME people already gave up watching their much-ballyhooed two hour Spike TV special given the 1.18 rating/1.5 million viewers. If that's not enough, The Wrestling Observer reported that a special Thursday edition of TNA iMPACT! drew 0.6 cable rating. This ties TNA's lowest ratings for iMPACT! dating back to November 2005 and April 2006. Many regular TNA viewers were obviously watching RAW that week.

To contact parties concerned:

Contact TNA to express your thoughts on this matter at http://www.tnawrestling.com/contact/index.html. Make clear to them that you will also be contacting Spike TV and Universal Studios.

Contact Spike TV at their feedback site at http://www.spiketv.com/interact/feedback/feedback.jhtml

* Salil Gulati/Spike TV - 212-767-8705 salil.gulati@spiketv.com

Point out to them, as has been said before, that NWA-TNA needs Ring Of Honor's fan base to survive. and that those online and smart mark fans that have kept them alive until they were supported by their current backers. Without that fan base, they might well not survive.

You can also contact NWA-TNA via snail mail at TNA Wrestling, 209 10th Avenue South - Suite 302 Nashville, TN 37203.

If you use the snail mail method, send TNA copies of your recent cable bills that show you are now ordering their PPVs. Remind them that they will be losing a customer starting with their February 11 PPV.

If you're moved to respond, tell the advertisers you're acting in support of a company you say you support. Tell the advertiser you won't be seeing their ads, since you won't be viewing the show they appear on. Tell them you're going to put your money where your mouth is, and tell a company like TNA that's made a business decision that you in turn have made a business decision of sorts; and you'll no longer support them as long as they continue with the "business decision" they've made.

    Until next time...

If you'd like to add advertising on PWBTS.com (the flagship website of this column), banner ads are available for $400 for one year/$200 for six months. These ads would appear on each newspage appearing on the newsboard. Cube ads are available for $200 for one year, which would be placed on the main newsboard page. If you have comments or questions, if you'd like to add the AS I SEE IT column to your website or for advertising requests, I can be reached by e-mail at href="mailto:bobmagee1@hotmail.com">bobmagee1@hotmail.com.
