Please post on your sites...help out IWA Mid-South

Sent in by Bob Magee...

Since this writer and the PWBTS.com website have always believed in helping indies, I'm asking readers to help out IWA Mid-South Wrestling to resolve a legal situation.

To explain, here's the item sent out to websites earlier today:

As many of you may know, we had the 2004 KOTDM tournament in Oolitic, Indiana. After that show, we were no longer allowed in that building because they said they had to have the floor re-done due to us ruining the floor. After going to court over this the last couple of years, the decision came down today that we had 30 days to pay the damages for the floor.

You may ask why this took so long to settle. The building tried to get our insurance company to pay to re-do the floor and they wanted proof that we were the ones who had actually damaged it. Or if it was a small spot (thats what they claimed we did) why the whole gym floor had to be refinished. Of course, the building couldn't give them the proof because other people had used the building after us. The insurance company denied the claim twice. After the insurance company denied the claims, the city board of directors chose to sue Ian personally (eventually gaining a judgment against him). Today he had a summons to appear in court under the terms since he hadn't paid the judgment, that they would start to garnish Ian's wages.

Ian tried to set up a payment plan, but was told that this had been on going for too long and he would have to make payment within 30 days, or a garnishment would began. So I thought I would explain to the judge and the attorneys how the wrestling business is a mostly cash business and that would be almost impossible to do. To Ian's surprise, he was told that it would be perfectly legal for them to come in to any shows in the state of Indiana with sheriffs, and take all monies associated with the show.

We are not asking you to give us money, but we do have PLENTY of merchandise around here for sale. So we are going to have a sale on all merchandise we have.

The sale will be on hoodies, T-shirts, and DVDs in hopes of trying to put this issue to rest. Because if Ian can't put this thing to rest, it could really screw up King Of The Death Matches. We now have a 9 disc dvd burner and can be shipping your order to you within 2-3 days.

The dvd sale will be (along with the one we currently have) for the people who don't have $70- $80 to spend on the sale currently going on. Buy 2 --get one free of equal value. And of course if you don't want to pay for shipping you can pick them up at shows. If you order in time, you can pick them up as early as Candido Cup. For those of you who might have the money , you can do the buy 2 --get 1 free up to 5 times. So you would buy 10 DVDs get 5 free (TPIs & KOTDMs count as 2.)

Hoodies we have very limited quantity. We have 9 XL and 9 2XL. The XL will be $25 and the 2X will be $30.

The 2006 TPI shirts will be $8.00 (all sizes) which we have XL, 2X, and 3X. I will be looking to see if we have any other sizes and I will post on here if we do.

For a full listing of tshirts with pictures, go to this link

Thanks for your help with this. Ian knows he will probably take some bashing for this. But right now with everything that is going on, Ian only sees one direction to turn and that is to our great fans.

For those of you that support this sale, Ian says he cannot thank you enough. He hopes to see everybody next weekend at the Candido Cup.

We will accept paypal, checks, and money orders. You may email Patti at rottenwife@aol.com rottenwife@aol.com and let Patti know which you would choose to do.

Also, we will have all merchandise available for this sale at our upcoming events so you can also purchase them there with money or credit card. Thank you again for your on going support.

“Absolutely Tan” Joey Eastman Recap

Keith begins with the observation that the radio can’t pick up how tanned Joey Eastman is right now, Joey notes that not even the sun can pick up how tanned he is. Joey then states that the IWA Midlothian crowd is the ‘ugliest group of people to ever congregate in one area,’ mentioning the ‘no-eared midgets’ and ‘fat girls with their breasts larger than their stomachs’ in attendance. Barlow asks if a tan will help these sorry people. Joey replies only DEATH can help the fans of IWA Midlothian.

Onto more pressing matters, and will Joey’s lemon and lime pants be this years must-have fashion item? Joey says he reads Cosmo but not GQ as he’s not GAY, and yellow bell-bottoms are the way to go. Joey finishes by asking the fans to put money into his pocket as he’s sick of being on welfare before discussing the forthcoming Chris Candido memorial show TONIGHT in Streamwood Illinois as Promoter Ed Chuman mentnions “you forgot Black Machismio” Words to live by... Check out http://www.midwestwrestling.com

Mike Quackenbush Recap

Mike says how HUMBLED he was by the audience's reception to his Chikara crew at the Ring of Honor show and hopes to be more of a part of the ROH scenery. Dr. Keith asks about the Chikara Pro Pod-Per-View. Mike says he stole the idea from Ricky Gervais and says the PPV is only $1.99 (CHEAP!). Keith is miffed that he can’t get the Podcasts on videotape but wants to support a great alternative and some fantastic CHIKARA characters.

Keith asks if Mike’s five year mission much like Star Trek's five year mission for Chikara is complete? Mike says it is ongoing and says that 2007 will be the biggest year to date for Chikara saying that it’s a colourful alternative to the stagnant WWE product. Doctor talks about his love of Chuck Taylor and Ultramantis Black. A final thanks by Mike Quackenbush to the Chikara Pro gang as they have a long drive, Keith's final question who gets to control the radio on the ride home? Not Jigsaw. Check out http://www.chikarapro.com/ and http://wigglysworld.com/chikara/Site/chikara.html for the Pod Per View and for shirtless Wiggly

Jack Evans Recap

Jack introduces himself as the ‘man, the myth, the legend, Jack Evans from the heavens.’ Keith asks if Jack feels any less-American for the time he’s spending in Japan. Jack says that’s no bad thing as the Japanese people behave more properly and they crazy better toast, ‘you lose your leg, you eat this toast, you’re fine.’ Keith asks if the leg regenerates? ‘It’s magical’ Jack replies.

Keith asks what he’s most looking forward to in Dragon Gate? ‘Kobe Beef.’ Jack talks about being part of the devilish heel faction, the Muscle Outlaws. Jack promises to return from Japan in two months ‘bigger, badder and better than ever before,’ before some ZOMBIE talk. They discuss zombie location, Keith points to sidekick Bill Barlow's "where the hell is Bridgeport t-shirt?" Talk of Bridgeport Zombies ends the interview.

Mark Briscoe Recap

One half of the ROH tag team champions, Keith asks how Mark is after the botched shooting star press in Detroit on WrestleMania weekend. Mark says the tests came back fine on his head, but he found out that he had a broken neck at some point that had since repaired itself. Keith wonders if it’s the healing powers of BriscoePhysics. He also thinks his shoulders popped out of joint, ‘but that’s alright.’ Mark says he was ready to get back in the ring after it happened but was taken to hospital and tells a story where he got violent in the ambulance, and even Sugarfoot Alex Payne could not calm him down.

Dr. Keith asks about Briscoe wrestling the Chikara guys at the Chicago show. Mark puts them over as being better than anyone he’s seen at that style. Keith talks about FIP barroom brawl in Florida with Madman Pondo & NECRO BUTCHER~! and suggests Mark wear some headgear, perhaps the Hulk Hogan fist helmet? Mark thought Keith said fish with both agreeing that a fish helmet would be far more appropriate.

The good doctor then discusses his hatred for Shane Hagadorn over Shane’s attempt to put chewing gum over the doctors notes. Mark agrees to rough Shane up alongside his brother. Keith finishes asking if the Briscoe’s intend to challenge again for the GHC Junior Tag Team belts, before going off to find the beer store. Good stuff. Check out http://www.briscoebrothers.com/

*** *** ***

Plus: Keith and Bill's thoughts on the ROH and IWA-Shows, how great are Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin when they are not involved in tomfoolery? Why are there always parks around wrestling shows? Why don't more wrestlers use the swing sets? How great was the Joey Ryan vs. Chuck Taylor match at the IWA-MS show (really great)? Fun stuff direct from both shows and if that’s not all - gourd flute versions of Prince songs. Thank you.

IWA Mid-South/Results for April Blood Showers: The Final Chapter - 4/28 in Midlo

-- Click the link below for complete results:

Jack Thriller def. Hype Shalwin.

Dysfunction def. Troy Walters with a Rubix Cube (Electric Chair driver) to retain the NWA Wisconsin title.

Josh Abercrombie def. Brandon Thomaselli. The match was non-title after Thomaselli didn't make weight. Again, Abercrombie defeated Brandon in a non-title match. Abercrombie won after punching Thomaselli with Referee Travis Young's belt and then he took the belt and wrapped it around Brandon's throat and stood on his back and yanked up on the belt choking the life out of Brandon until he tapped out (Brandon had tried to do the same to him earlier in the match). This ended up being a Lumberjack Strap match instead of an Indian Strap Match because earlier in the show, Brandon Thomaselli came to the ring and declared that the Indian Strap match was signed when he was the challenger so it was no longer valid since he was the champ now. He then when on to say that Josh Abercrombie was scared of him and wanted to run. Ian Rotten told him that it was fine not to do the Indian Strap match and since Josh was scared, he would make it a lumberjack match instead. Brandon was more than happy with that stipulation. Ian then said "oh by the way, the lumberjacks will have straps" which Brandon didn't like at all.

OMG def. Jason Strife with a top rope twisting Pedigree.

Ash & Elgin defeated Vortekz & Die Hard Dustin Lee.

Scott Lost def. Billy Roc. Lost stated before the match that Bosh was at home resting his knee for the Candido Cup. This promo was amazing, mostly due to its incredible awkwardness. "Bosh wanted me to let you know why he wasn't here...so consider yourself...known."

Iron Saints def. North Star Express in the double dog collar match where all 4 men were bleeding due to this violent matchup. The Saints got the win after Joey Eastman entered the ring and started chopping both Saints while they were being held by the NSE. The Saints then yanked the chains causing the NSE to sandwich Joey and then they hit the double team Texas cloverleaf/DDT for the pinfall.

Tank def. Ian Rotten via countout with a brutal Samoan Drop on the floor through a table. Ian was unable to get back into the ring by the 20 count and Tank just made it back in in time. This was a brutal encounter that included several hellacious forearms, headbutts and Ian even almost knocked out Tank with a vicious punch to the face on the floor.

Chuck Taylor beat Joey Ryan in a hilarious and very even match. Taylor won with the Omega Driver. Seriously, buy this DVD...and we're not even done!

Jim Fannin came to ringside after the match and told Chuck Taylor that he has not forgotten about him not thanking the BMFers for giving him the title just because he spent all his focus on the destruction of Jimmy Jacobs. With Jacobs laid up in bed at home and out of action, he is now ready to return his focus on Chuck Taylor after Taylor breaks Jimmy Jacobs title reign record in 3 more months. Fannin promised to send someone after Taylor to win the title and then have that person hold the title longer than Fannin's longest reigning champion so that 3 birds could be killed at one time (the revenge on Chuck, ending Jimmy Jacobs' record and becoming Fannin's longest reigning champion).

Tyler Black vs. Joey Mercury announced for Joliet

Chuck vs. Necro announced for Candido Cup Night 2

Drake Younger beat CJ Otis in a a must-see Barb Wire Mayhem match. The match included interference from Joey Eastman's core, as well as two ref knockouts, but after all the barbed wire madness, Drake Younger pulled out the win. The victory came as Joey Eastman, Elgin, Ash, Corbin & Cruz came out to help CJ and started beating on Drake. Ian ran to the ring with a chair causing all of Joey Eastman World Wide (JEWW) to leave. Ian then entered the ring with the chair (the barbed wire had but snapped during the match) as CJ had Drake in a go behind. Drake moved out of the way and the chairshot hit CJ. Drake then hit a vicious vertebreaker for the pin. Drake then confronted Ian yelling "was that chairshot meant for me?" but Ian just turned and walked away. Drake and CJ shook hands afterwards bringing an end to their feud and then CJ left with Joey Eastman evidently as the newest member of JEWW.

PRO WRESTLING: BIG ASS THURSDAY UPDATE~! 4/26/07

By Art Shimko
shimko_7@hotmail.com

-- Tons of news and notes from the past week...

WWE
-- This weekend Steve Austin's upcoming action flick The Condemned will be in theaters, he appeared on Howard Stern and did a live text chat Monday night. Lots of reviews are in for The Condemned and it's a mixed bag of opinions although not many are in favor of the movie, here's a sample:
- Originality is loser in WWE’s death match
- Movie 'condemns' audience to torturous viewing
- Two middle fingers up for The Condemned
- WWE star has something new to prove in 'The Condemned'
- Stone Cold Heats Up
- Bottom Line: D-grade "Running Man" ripoff

-- Here's an Austin interview on Sports Illustrated's site.

-- Last week WWE dropped Deep South Wrestling as a developmental territory after reports that the operation was in complete disarray. Vince McMahon had a shit-fit about the situation and decided to drop all developmental territories including Ohio Valley Wrestling. Fortunately McMahon was talked out of dropping OVW and it looks like all DSW trainees will be shipped to Steve Keirn's school in Florida. Meanwhile, Jody Hamilton has decided to shut down the DSW promotion.

-- Randy Orton's acting like a rock star these days... or more like an asshole. Orton was sent home last week from the European tour after he trashed a hotel room, the estimated damages were said to be between $30,000-$50,000. Man, this guy must've been going through a (supposed) roid rage or something. Orton has not been suspended as of yet although he was fined and it looks like he'll certainly do the job this weekend at Backlash in a four-way for the WWE title which could be one of many jobs he'll be doing for some time. With Vince paranoid about firing talent and ending up on TNA it looks as if Orton is secure in WWE... for the time being. [source for info on last two items: Figure 4 Weekly newsletter www.f4wonline.com]

-- Speaking of Backlash, Casey, Euan and myself did a preview podcast for this mundance PPV. Casey and I also discuss current news in the MMA world.

-- An interview with Vince McMahon about pay-per-view business.

-- WWE will be releasing a 2-DVD "Ladder Match" set, you can see the match listing here.

-- Batista left quite the impression with fans at an autograph session in Wolverhampton, England. Batista was said to be jet-lagged and what would normally be a two-hour session was cut to an hour. One youngster had anticipated meeting the former world and tag champ but instead was disappointed afterwards, his father stated: “Kyle got a ticket and couldn’t sleep the night before, he was so excited at meeting Batista and he had the afternoon off school. All his mates were telling him how jealous they were. “But when he got there we were told Batista would only be signing WWE merchandise. We queued for nearly two hours and he signed a WWE book, didn’t even look at him or say a word and that was it. His mum was trying to take a picture of the two on the mobile phone but his bouncers kept standing in the way to stop it. “And he refused to sign a birthday card that Kyle had taken in because it is his birthday in three weeks. “I think it is absolutely disgraceful for a man who is loved by so many kids to behave like this. We go down to the Wolves training ground all the time and they can’t do enough for us. If they can make the effort I don’t see why a jumped-up bloke in tights can’t do the the same. Kyle couldn’t stop crying.”

-- On Tuesday Mickie James won the Women's title at a house show in Paris against Melina and Victoria when she pinned Victoria for the win. Apparently Victoria didn't kick out on the three-count as she was supposed to, and a few matches later Melina won the title back from Mickie. Surprisingly, WWE made note of the title switch.

-- Super Crazy was injured at a weekend show in Oberhausen, Germany during a tag match. "Super Crazy landed awkwardly and twisted his knee during a match," said Dr. Ferdinand Rios. "I agree with the trainer's original assessment that Super Crazy has a torn ligament in his left knee. We aren't sure if he tore his ACL or MCL so we have scheduled an MRI for later this week.

-- Cade and Murdoch shoot... or maybe work-shoot on internet fans... do these clowns even get internet access in their trailers?

-- Balls Mahoney will be appearing on Sci Fi Channel's Who Wants to Be a Superhero? this summer as he will help critique and inspire these costumed crusaders in their battles with the show’s villain, Dr. Dark.

-- Philadelphia police officer Shawn Goodstone has been suspended and will lose his job for stealing two WWE action figures from a Rite Aid in West Kensington last month.

-- WWE is suing Dale Gagne who runs shows under the AWA banner for copyright infringement. WWE purchased AWA trademarks from Verne Gagne in 2003, WWE also cites that Dale Gagne (real name: Gagner) dropped the "R" from his last name in order to allegedly make like he was related to former AWA promoter Verne Gagne. You can read Dale's response to the suit here.

-- WWE will be reporting its first quarter earnings in a conference call on 5/3 at 11AM EST, participants can call 800-894-5910 (conference ID: WWE).

-- J.R.’s Back With Plenty to Say!

-- Flair is taking fight with money manager to court

-- Divas shine in Jared Gold’s designs

-- Michelle McCool measures up her competition

TNA/ROH/CZW/INDIES
-- Sean Christopher Haire, who got punched out during a scuffle in front of a Hilton Head Island bar last month, was charged on Monday with felony high and aggravated assault and battery. Juan Hamilton Brantley, the guy who punched Haire in the eye, was also arrested for the same charges, both men remain in the Beaufort County Detention Center. Capt. Toby McSwain of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office stated, "It's a little surprising that the court has issued warrants to both of them, but I guess the judge listened to both sides of the story and couldn't determine who the primary aggressor was."

-- Alex Marvez's lastest column on "Dr. Death" Steve Williams.

-- A card for the Hogan/Wight Memphis show on Friday was finally released.

-- Two-time NASCAR champ Tony Stewart recently compared his sport to pro wrestling on his Sirius Satellite Radio Tuesday night when discussing how NASCAR officials use bogus caution flags to fix races: "It's like playing God," he said on his Sirius Satellite Radio program. "They can almost dictate the race instead of the drivers doing it. It's happened too many times this year." Stewart, who said he was fighting a fever and left the two-hour show early, went on to say fans are complaining about debris cautions and NASCAR isn't listening. "I guess NASCAR thinks, 'Hey, wrestling worked, and it was for the most part staged, so I guess it's going to work in racing, too,'" he said. "I can't understand how long the fans are going to let NASCAR treat them like they're stupid before the fans finally turn on NASCAR. "I don't know that they've run a fair race all year." NASCAR's response: "NASCAR has been running races since 1948, and we place the safety of the drivers at the top of the list," spokesman Jim Hunter said. "We have more people and more resources than ever officiating our races. The safety of the drivers is our first priority. It has always been that way and will continue to be that way.

-- Footage of Christian Cage against Abyss from last year's TNA Lockdown PPV was shown on this week's episode of FOX's House.

-- Austin Starr has been suspended from TNA for 90 days after he questioned the reason for filming a vignette on his day off. After arguing and pressing the issue, Starr eventually cooperated and agreed to filmed the vignettes but TNA was so annoyed with his attitude that they laid down the law making an example out of Starr by sending him home. [source: Figure 4 Weekly newsletter www.f4wonline.com]

-- TNA holds its Slammiversary PPV on 6/17 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Tickets go on sale 5/19.

-- ROH's 5/12 show at the Manhattan Center is close to a sell-out and a card hasn't been announced yet.

-- ROH world champ Takeshi Morishima recieved the future legends award at the Cauliflower Alley Club 42nd Annual Banquet & Awards last weekend.

-- ROH this Friday at the St. Paul Armory [600 Cedar Street] in St. Paul, MN: Takeshi Morishima vs. Austin Aries for the ROH title; Roderick Strong defends vs. Christopher Daniels for the FIP title; World Tag Team Title Ultimate Endurance: Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Pelle Primeau & Mitch Franklin vs. Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw vs. Hallowicked & Gran Akuma; Jack Evans vs. Delirious vs. Rocky Romero vs. Erick Stevens; Colt Cabana & Homicide vs. Brent Albright & Adam Pearce with Shane Hagadorn; BJ Whitmer vs. Shingo; Rain & Lacey vs. Sara Del Rey & Allison Danger

IWA Mid-South: NEW CHAMP in Shelbyville, IN! 4/14

IWA Mid-South debuted in Shelbyville, IN at Southwestern High School on Saturday night with a historic event. Attendance was 356 paid. This special fundraiser included the IWA debuts of two legends in the wrestling business in DEMOLITION AX and the HONKY TONK MAN - but the big news coming out of this event is that a NEW champion was crowned! Onto the results...

1.) VORTEKZ def. "DIEHARD" DUSTIN LEE, RICOCHET, xOMGx, & JACK THRILLER in a wild light-heavyweight opener. Bodies were flying everywhere in absolutely no time. In the end, Vortekz managed to gain a win, pinning xOMGx after a flipping-German suplex from the top rope with both men using xOMGx as a landing pad.

2.) Special Midget Match - T.O. def. PUPPET in an exciting contest with a front-flip senton off the top rope. Both meant business and put on a great wrestling match.

3.) IWA Mid-South Women's Title - MICKIE KNUCKLES def. CHRISTIE SUMMERS with the Shining Kawada kick. Summers was quite impressive, sustaining a snap-suplex on the hardwood gym floor and a vicious B-Boy Dropkick in the corner. Summers held her own but Mickie Knuckles proved to be too dominating.

4.) THE IRON SAINTS (VITO & SAL THOMASELLI) def. BILLY ROC & TONY KOZINA with a reverse Kalifornication (with Vito coming off the top rope, who has had issues with Kozina in other organizations.) Kozina was impressive in his IWA Mid-South debut & worked well as a team with Billy Roc. With Brandon Thomaselli at ringside, "IWA's Welcoming Committee," Vito and Sal, proved to be the better team tonight.

5.) DEMOLITION AX def. TANK in a hard-hitting and entertaining bout. Throughout the match, Tank pulled a foreign object from his pants and assaulted Ax's ribs and back. In the end, Tank was caught by the referee and Demolition Ax pulled a foreign object of his own, knocked the Stong Style Psycho silly, and picked up the win.

6.) TLC Match for the IWA World Light-Heavyweight Title - BRANDON THOMASELLI def. JOSH ABERCROMBIE, ending his near 15 month title reign (only short by one week.) This was a brutal match that is a MUST SEE. As soon as Josh Abercrombie hit the ring, he went right at Thomaselli before the opening announcements. Tables, ladders, and chairs were totally legal in this match. A total of three tables were used; the final one ending Abercrombie's reign, as Brandon gave Josh the AIR RAID CRASH from the TOP OF A LADDER, TROUGH A TABLE and pinned him in the middle of the ring. Brandon's brothers, Vito and Sal, grabbed the belt and presented it to him in the ring. They proceeded to lay a beat down to Josh, adding insult to injury. The new IWA World Light-Heavyweight Champion, Brandon Thomaselli, walked in on commentary on several occasions the rest of the evening, claiming a big celebration later that night.

7.) CJ OTIS def. "SPYDER" NATE WEBB in an exciting match-up with the Burning Hammer. Nate had his trademark entrance, going all over the large Southwestern gymnasium. Webb took CJ Otis to the outside and held Otis as he had about half of the front row chop him across the chest.

8.) "THE DAMAJA" DANNY BASHAM vs. IAN ROTTEN went to a double count-out as both men brawled all over the bleachers, throughout the crowd. Before the match, Ian talked about how Basham used to work for a rival company in Louisville and how that company used to give him a lot of headaches. Ian said despite all that, he respected him and that he would like a pure wrestling match. That, however, ended rather quickly when both men spilled to the outside, throwing forearms and chops. They fought all the way up into the bleachers and Basham gave Rotten a nasty vertical suplex, up around the 20th row. They continued to brawl, even after the referee had thrown the match out.

9.) HONKY TONK MAN def. "MARVELOUS" MITCH RYDER w/ JIM FANNIN after the Honky Tonk Man clocked Mitch over the head with a guitar, as Jim Fannin inadvertantly distracted the referee. Honky sang his trademark song before the match, and even had an encore. Friday, Mitch Ryder invaded the afternoon announcements of Southwestern High School. Saturday night, the Honky Tonk Man was accompanied to the ring by Southwestern High School teacher Mr. O'Malley. Jim Fannin got on the microphone and berated Honky and the teacher, whom Jim Fannin referred to as "Mr. Feeney."

10.) IWA Mid-South World Champion CHUCK TAYLOR def. against IWA Mid-South Death Match Champion DRAKE YOUNGER in a great main event after connecting with the Omega Driver. CJ Otis was on commentary, talking about his upcoming Barb Wire Warfare Match with Drake Younger on 4/28. Otis was actually pulling for Drake, hoping that it could make their match not only for the IWA Mid-South Death Match Title, but also for the IWA Mid-South World Championship. Throughout the match, Chuck Taylor taunted the crowded, eventually sending the kids into a frenzy. Drake Younger almost became World Champion but came up just short. After the match, a group of elementary school children surrounded the ring, preventing Chuck Taylor from leaving, who claimed to be the "King of Elementary School Kids." Taylor required a slight security escort to exit.

This DVD will be available on SmartMarkVideo.com soon.

IWA Mid-South's next stop is Sunday, April 22 in San Antonio, Texas.

MIXED MARTIAL ARTS NEWS
-- A post-fight piss test revealed that Melvin Guillard tested positive for cocaine following his 4/5 Fight Night match with Joe Stevenson. This is just plain fucking stupid. So far we've seen two stoners compete in MMA, guys who don't make weight three months before a title fight and don't make weight for a TV show where 155-pounders are competing and guys doing blow before their matches... recreation is great and all, but god damn these guys know they have a fight coming up and that the commission tests for drugs or that they MUST make weight for a fight... like Ric James said, "that cocaine is a helluva drug!"

-- In a CBS Sportsline interview with Brock Lesnar, when asked how Kurt Angle would do in MMA, he replies: I think Kurt would do rather well in the 205 category, but I think father time has caught up to him rather quickly because of the demand of professional wrestling and what he gave to professional wrestling, and what he gave his body to. I think that he might have a couple of fights in him but ... poor guy, he's given his life and his heart, mind, and soul to be a professional wrestler and he's hurt himself.
Lesnar's spent the last 10 months training and between 265-270lbs., he's trained with Pat Miletich and currently trains at Minnesota Mixed Martial Arts Academy. As far as training with Royce Gracie Lesnar says their schedules are unable to accomodate time to train together but maybe after the K-1 6/2 event at the L.A Coliseum they'll get to train. Lesnar confirms that his K-1 contract is for one fight only and says that Vince McMahon attempted to arrange Lesnar and Kurt Angle to have individual fights with Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson but the boxers nixed that idea.

-- Dana White loves Canada~! "Canada's been a phenomenal breakthrough market for us, the sleeper market," White told The Canadian Press in an interview. "When we were looking at this thing, when we first purchased it, we had no idea that Canada would become so huge."

-- Matt Serra talks about his recent win against Georges St. Pierre and has some words about Matt Hughes in this video interview.

-- Serra on rise in UFC after stunning St. Pierre

-- Here's an article on Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou; Prior to Sokoudjou's recent victories in Pride over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona he fought just three times for the Total Combat promotion in San Diego and Sportfight in Portland, OR. Sokoudjou arrived in the States six years ago to train for Olympic judo competition when he met Pride Middleweight and Welterweight Champion Dan Henderson as he was training to fight judo practitioner Kazuhiro Nakamura. From there Sokoudjou got into MMA but admits the transition wasn't so smooth: "I thought it would be easy, but it was really hard for me to kind of understand that judo and mixed martial arts are two different things," he said. "I thought, 'I know judo so I can go ahead and judo everybody." Sokoudjou has modest aspirations in this sport: "I would love to say I'm going to get a bunch of belts. Lots of people out there have a bunch of belts, but they suck," he added. "My goal is to put on a good show and make sure everyone who comes and watches me fight is always satisfied."

-- From the IFL: The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s first team-based professional mixed martial arts league, and USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body for wrestling in the United States, today announced a strategic partnership between the two organizations aimed at increasing the awareness level and creating unique grassroots programs and branding opportunities for both groups. “This is a great day for the IFL and for the sports of Mixed Martial Arts and wrestling,” said IFL Commissioner and Co-Founder Kurt Otto.“This partnership will give us the platform to reach a very passionate demo with one of the most respected National Governing Bodies. This cooperative program will help us further our mission to expose these great IFL athletes to a larger audience and show how they can use their wrestling skills as part of MMA.”

Cabana signs with WWE, UFC-Mania on TV this week, Lashley saluted, WSX update, Jacobs at IWA, Serra article, IFL, more

By Art Shimko
shimko_7@hotmail.com

-- Colt Cabana has signed with WWE thus his final date with ROH will be 4/28 in his hometown Chicago facing Adam Pearce. "For the past four and a half years the only consistent thing in my life has been ROH," Cabana said. "ROH has been my home and family. The Chicago show on April 28th is not going to be a farewell, but a celebration. We are going to celebrate how great ROH is and will continue to be. It's not going to be a good bye, its going to be a "Seeya later". Thanks for all the good time, and great memories!" During his ROH run, which began in 2002 at Philadelphia's Murphy Rec Center with best friend and current ECW wrestler CM Punk, Cabana has been ROH Tag Team Champion twice with Punk and has been involved in many great moments with the promotion including his heated feud with Homicide and the recent great angle with Lacey and Jimmy Jacobs. Let's hope Cabana gets to display his unique sense of humor and excellent ring work in the big leagues.

IWA Mid-South SPRING PREVIEW 2007

On Saturday March 31, IWA will begin a series of events that will go straight through the summer, onto our return to the New Alhambra Arena in South Philadelphia, PA.

MARCH 31

Midlothian, IL - Don Preston Rec Center - 14500 Kostner Avenue

Belltime 7:30; Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
Ticket Prices are $20 and $15 - the $10 ticket prices are no longer available so second row and back are general admission seats now.

MAIN EVENT - No DQ, Street Fight for the IWA World Championship

CHUCK TAYLOR © vs LOW-KI

In their prior encounter, at January's "Winter Wars 2007" (1/27/07), Chuck Taylor narrowly escaped losing his title when, in a panic, he intentionally low-blowed referee PJ Drummond just as it appeared that Low-Ki had the complete advantage. It continued at "Payback, Pain, & Agony 2007" (2/9/07), when Chuck Taylor defended against independent standout Davey Richards. Taylor mocked Low-Ki, who was sitting in at the commentary table. Their next match, scheduled for "February Fury 2007" (2/23/07), was postponed when Chuck Taylor claimed he could not compete due to injury. Taylor returned from injury only 2 weeks later at "March Massacre 2007" (3/2/07). He successfully defended in a three-way contest against Billy Roc and former partner, Ricochet, then proceeded to totally disrespect Low-Ki on the microphone. Low-Ki was not in attendance. On Saturday, March 31, arguably the most dominant force in IWA history, LOW-KI, will finally get his chance at IWA gold when he meets IWA World Champion CHUCK TAYLOR under STREET FIGHT rules.

Last Man Standing

DRAKE YOUNGER vs CJ OTIS

Another long-standing feud in IWA may finally see it's final chapter written March 31. Drake Younger and CJ Otis first met in a hard-hitting match-up during Night 2 of "IWA's 10th Anniversary" (10/20/06) in Harvey, IL. The next night, they were tag-team partners. Then, Younger and Otis met in the first round of the "Revolution Strong Style Tournament 2007" (11/24/07) in what many called the show-stealer. They teamed one more time together against the North Star Express and then, egos began to clash. CJ Otis claimed to have the better finishing maneuver in the Burning Hammer. Drake Younger, on the other hand, argued that it didn't matter and they should work together as a team. This disagreement, seeminingly a petty argument, has led to one of the most brutal feuds between two young rising stars in IWA history. From the Finisher's Match at "HURT 2007" (1/5/07) to the Tap Out Only Match at "Winter Wars 2007" (1/27/07), and the most recent No Holds Barred Match at "February Fury 2007" (2/23/07), their feud has produced a couple of concussions, several staples in Drake Younger's skull, and a lot of blood loss.

Recently, CJ Otis has been making it a personal matter. Otis brutally assaulted Younger's friend Vortekz after a match in Plainfield, IN, delivering two Burning Hammers to Vortekz after the match was already over. Most recently, he took out his frustration on Drake's fellow R.A.A.G.E. Dojo graduates including Vortekz, OMG, and DieHard Dustin Lee during an 8-man tag-team match at "March Massacre 2007" (3/2/07). Will this feud come to an end in one of the most dangerous matches in wrestling - a Last Man Standing match? Countless feuds in professional wrestling have come to a decisive end after last man standing matches. Will that hold true on March 31?

IWA World Light-Heavyweight Championship

JOSH ABERCROMBIE © vs BRANDON THOMASELLI

Josh Abercrombie's dominance of the IWA Light-Heavyweight division began in 2005 at "Something to Prove" when he defeated Delirious at the former ECW Arena for his first title reign. Since then, Josh has taken the title to new heights, defending the belt in Germany and then in Mexico for the AAA promotion. But as Abercrombie arose to the top of the division, he was 1/2 of 21 and Irresponsible, a tag-team he formed with Brandon Thomaselli. Now the "Impact Bully" has turned his back on his former friend and Josh Abercrombie wants revenge. Will Brandon Thomaselli be the one to end Josh's 14-month reign?

Strong Style Showdown

EDDIE KINGSTON vs RICKY REYES

Eddie Kingston's last IWA appearance was at November's "Revoltion Strong Style Tournament 2006" (11/24/06), which he won by defeating Drake Younger in the finals. Unfortunately, Kingston suffered a broken ankle during a CZW Title defense in December. Kingston recently returned to the ring for CZW, Chikara, and the debut show of Fight Sports Midwest. The 2006 RSST Champion's first match back for IWA will be against a member of The Rottweilers, Ricky Reyes. Kingston intends to make it clear that he hasn't lost a step but he'll have his hands more than full with Ricky Reyes.

Old School vs New School - Clash of Styles

IAN ROTTEN vs RICOCHET

At only 18 years old, Ricochet has wowed audiences around the country not only in IWA, but in Chikara, JAPW, and CZW. He has a phenomenal aerial ability that is far above par but many say Ricochet is one-dimensional; a one-trick pony. In IWA Mid-South, the best way to prove yourself is by stepping in the ring with the boss, Ian Rotten. That's exactly what Ricochet will do March 31. Can Ricochet's speed allow him to gain a victory or will Ian Rotten give young Ricochet the beating of his life?

Grudge Match

TAREK THE GREAT vs JACK THRILLER

Tarek has received clearance from the doctors to return to the ring and he is looking for revenge after the two attacks by Jack Thriller that sidelined him. Thriller can prove himself as a viable contender for the light heavyweight title if he can pull off another victory over the 10-time former champion.

Light-Heavyweight Contender Match

DEVON MOORE vs BILLY ROC

Plus two more matches for a total of 9 matches in Midlothian!

IWA Mid-South Deathmatch Championship - BARB-WIRE CAGE

DRAKE YOUNGER © vs IAN ROTTEN

Drake Younger has been on a roll lately. He currently holds three seperate deathmatch championships and seems to be the talk of the independent wrestling internet community. Drake Younger will defend the IWA Mid-South Deathmatch Championship against his idol and "Old & Younger" tag-team partner, "The Undisputed King of Hardcore" Ian Rotten at IWA's longest-running series of events, April Bloodshowers. You may have seen or heard of other promotions hold barb-wire steel cages but IWA plans to set the standard violence on April 6.

Homerun Derby - Barb-wire Bat, Water Jug Bat, Thumbtack Bat, and more..

INSANE LANE vs DERANGED

After touring Japan for several weeks, Deranged has returned and is back on Amercian soil. He's been gone from IWA Mid-South competition since September but he intends to show same lack of compassion for his opponents that he always has. His first opponent will be IWA Deep-South's Insane Lane. Lane recently qualified for the 2007 King of the Deathmatch Tournament at an IWA-DS show in Pell City, AL. Deranged has also been announced as an entrant to the KOTDM. With the tournament still 2 months away, these two, no doubt, will be looking to knock eachother's heads off in an attempt to gain momentum going into the biggest deathmatch event of the year.

Pit of Glass/Taipei Deathmatch

TANK vs FREAKSHOW

Two of the biggest men on the IWA roster will attempt to carve eachother up like Thanksgiving turkeys in a highly dangerous match-up April 6. Jagged shards of glass will be glued to each man's taped fists and a pit with several pounds of broken glass will be ringside. Eight spots remain in the 2007 King of the Deathmatch Tournament and you can bet that Tank and the Freakshow will do anything to get in. This one WILL get ugly.

Jim Fannin's Bounty Challenge Match

JIMMY JACOBS vs THE BARBARIAN

Everyone knows the history that Jim Fannin and Jimmy Jacobs have. Jim Fannin essentially put a hit out on Jimmy Jacobs' career. Jacobs, since his return, has been dressing alone and working for free. Thus far, he has survived onslaughts from former friend Josh Abercrombie and "Classic" Colt Cabana. The bounty has gone up to $5,000 and this time, Jim Fannin has brought in someone that influenced Jacobs' career, THE BARBARIAN. He may be nearly a foot taller than Jacobs, not to mention his lengendary strength. Jim Fannin not only wants to cripple Jacobs physically, but he wants to hurt Jimmy Jacobs mentally by having one of his childhood heroes do the damage.

Strong Style Showdown

DAVEY RICHARDS vs JOKER

Two big names on the independent scene have been announced for this event as the returning Davey Richards will take one the BLK OUT's Joker. Both men will be involved in the upcoming "Chris Candido Cup" for the IWA Tag-Team Championships, where Richards will team with BJ Whitmer and Joker will team with Sabian. This will be one of the hardest-hitting strong style battles that Plainfield has seen for quite some time.

Light-Heavyweight Contender's Match

DEVON MOORE vs RICOCHET

This match was supposed to occur in Midlothian last time but it ended up being changed and many fans said that they wanted to see it happen. You'll get your chance to see what Ricochet can do against the PWU champion in Plainfield.

Tag-Team Warfare

HILLBILLY JED & INDIANA KIDD, JR. vs VORTEKZ & "DIE HARD" DUSTIN LEE

These two teams want to lay claim to the final spots for the Candido Cup and decide who the best independent team from Indianapolis is. A victory in this match could go a long way for both teams.

Plus three more matches will be announced soon!
