Tonight is billed as not only a huge fight night, but for UFC and its fans this is to be the biggest fight of the year, perhaps even bigger than Hughes/Gracie and Ortiz/Shamrock were in many people's minds. There's even rumblings and speculation that this pay-per-view can possibly draw a million buys tonight. We'll wait and see but once again I'm looking more forward to this show than any WWE or TNA pay-per-view these days. Chuck Liddell Vs. Tito Ortiz: I can't see this going past the third round frankly, and yes Tito's been successful with his fights since last meeting Liddell in the Octagon a few years ago and seems to remain injury-free but I just can't "bet" against Chuck. It'll no doubt be a very competitive fight and whether Liddell "thumbs" or "pokes" Tito in the eye or not Liddell is leaving with the title and a "W" in his impressive fight record.
Keith Jardine Vs. Forrest Griffin: The last time I had seen Jardine fight was at an Ultimate Fight Night losing to Bonnar which seemed to be a controversial decision as many (including yours truly) felt Jardine fought his damnedest and was robbed of that win. Now with that statement, I'm a bit more familiar with Griffin's fights and he more than holds up his end in the Octagon and held his own against Tito earlier this year (ironically he too was seen to have been robbed of a win when Tito got the decision in their fight) so I pick Griffin to win but not without Jardine giving him a run for his money.
Andrei Arlovski Vs. Marcio Cruz: Arlovski really needs a win tonight in order to climb back up the UFC food chain and judging by Cruz's record compared to Arlovski's record and experience I'd go with Arlovski. However, there is a chance that if the fight goes to the ground Cruz could possibly submit Arlovski, but I'd like to think that the "Pit Bull" is hungry, determined and anticipating a successful return and just knocks the hell out of Cruz in the first round.
Jason MacDonald Vs. Chris Leben: This should be a decent fight, last time I saw MacDonald he beat Ed Herman who I thought would win but MacDonald showed that he was no stepping stone for anyone. Leben's a good scrapper who puts forth a major effort in the Octagon and is not afraid to slug it out with anyone. I see this is another competitive back-and-forth battle with MacDonald being the victor this evening.
Eric Schafer Vs. Michael Bisping: I'm picking Bisping to win this one via TKO, if it goes to the ground both fighters seem to have submission experience according to their win/loss records. Nonetheless Bisping wins this one in my opinion.
Tony DeSouza Vs. Thiago Alves: Not too familiar with either fighter, they both won their last fights at "Ortiz/Shamock: The Final Chapter" over two months ago. If they stay on their feet Alves may have a better chance at a TKO win. If it goes to the ground it could probably be in DeSouza's favor, although Alves has had a few submission victories. Both seem pretty even from the research I've done but I'm going with DeSouza on this one.
Carmelo Marrero Vs. Gabriel Gonzaga: The last time I saw Gonzaga was when he clocked Fabiano Scherner in a very quick fight at UFC 60. Not familiar with Marrero and I have a feeling Gonzaga's going to send Marrero to sleep very early.
Yushin Okami Vs. Rory Singer: I'm picking Okami to kick Singer's ass via TKO in round two.
Anthony Perosh Vs. Christian Wellisch: Not familiar at all with these fighters although I do remember seeing Wellish lose to Kongo at UFC 62. Both seem to have similar records and such, Wellisch could possibly win here if Perosh doesn't take him to the ground for a submission win.
As I stated earlier I will be watching the show tonight, live coverage or a report at the end of the night. Not sure yet so head on over to meanfilipine.blogspot.com at 10PM EST and check for coverage, I'll also send a Myspace bulletin regarding my plans.
-- According to the Iraqi government Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was hung on Saturday after being convicted for his role in the murder of 148 Shiite Muslims in 1982 who lived in a town where assassins attempted to kill him. Hussein was said to surrender and not resist following receiving the death pentalty, he asked for nothing and held a Quran as he was lead to his hanging. Iraqiya television news also reported that two others were hung along with Hussein, Barzan Ibrahim (Hussein's half-brother) and a former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court, Awad Hamed al-Bandar but three officials dispute that saying only Hussein was hung.
Meanwhile people were celebrating in the streets of Baghdad joyful and happy to see Hussein get what many saw he deserved for a very long time, President Bush referred to Hussein's execution as "the kind of justice he denied the victims of his brutal regime."
I was at a party this evening and believe it or not there was a bit of a mixed reaction when hearing of Hussein's execution. Some didn't even want to discuss it, maybe one reason being that a discussion would encourage an unnecessary debate and others reacting positively and celebrating the death of someone, even if it was a remorseless and brutal human being who reeked havoc to say the least upon the people of his country.
Many times I carry the "eye-for-an-eye" standpoint when it comes to these situations, and yes, Hussein was responsible for many deaths beyond the ones he was convicted of in this case leading to his demise. Though the historic value this execution cannot be denied, I'm not real happy about this, and not because I had sympathy for the fucking sonuvabitch. On one hand you have one more despicable evil presence wiped off the face of the Earth, yet at the same time what the hell does it really matter?
Okay, the Iraqi citizens feel justice has been served in seeing Hussein executed but in hindsight it won't change the fact that there's still a war in progress, we are sending more troops overseas to help fix Iraq with what seems to be no end in sight. Not that I expect an overnight resolution for this war and fixing a mess we got involved in; after about a week of celebration the reality will set in that Iraq is still in shit shape and we're still picking up the pieces.
-- Early Friday morning boxer Mike Tyson was arrested after leaving a nightclub and almost colliding with a sheriff's car in Scottsdale, Arizona for allegedly of driving under the influence as well as possession of cocaine; Tyson
Tyson was released without bond later Friday on a felony drug possession charge after appearing at Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix. There wasn't any alcohol found in his system and until toxicology tests come back he won't be charged with DUI or drug charges just yet.
According to Sgt. Larry Hall who was at the scene at 1:45AM Friday stated, "He showed signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests." Tyson was also spotted brushing a white powder from his console which triggered probable cause for the police to search his car.The probable cause statement revealed that two bags of coke were found in Tyson's back pocket, he then admitted to police he was an addict and had a drug problem.
"The irony is he did a great job with these kids _ stay away from drugs, don't drink, stay out of trouble," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County.

Dr. Keith Lipinski Show - Holiday Extravaganza Night One Recap
Dr. Keith Lipinski Show - Holiday Extravaganza Night One Recap Interviews with the Briscoe Brothers & Drake Younger By Brian Cooper of BigVanVader.com Listen Now! http://www.puroresupower.com/powerhour/shows/drkeith2006xmas-pt1.mp3
The Briscoe Brothers (Mark & Jay) Recap
Dr. Keith asks the Briscoe Brothers about their delightful 'man-up' catchphrase, which the Briscoe's claim to be from their 'bring ass attitude.' The brothers Briscoe say they have been wrestling for almost 7 years since the age of 15 (Mark) 16 (Jay) and credit ECW for becoming wrestlers, name-checking Sabu and The Dudley Boyz, but sadly not the Zombie. They bring up a previous altercation with D-Von Dudley back at an ECW show back in the day.
They talk about Mark's motorcycle injury (which can be seen on his myspace, http://www.myspace.com/superdunkchampion), with Jay saying he needed the time off due to burn out and 'not giving a fuck about wrestling' anymore. Mama and Papa Briscoe were always supportive of their sons wrestling dreams, with Papa Briscoe once losing to Kevin Kelly in an arm-wrestling match.
Keith asks what it was like training with legendary WCW star "Heavy Metal" Van Hammer. The Briscoe's said that VAN HAMMER TAUGHT THEM PSYCHOLOGY, although sadly not his most accomplished move: the guitar shot. They also hope to team together for their 'whole fucking life.'
Teams they credit include The Rockers, Midnight Express, The Steiner Brothers, The Funks, Brody & Hansen and The British Bulldogs. Mark talks about how TERRIBLE it was watching his brother Jay wrestle when the Pennsylvania state athletic commission didn't allow him to. He also talks about the mysterious masked tag team, The Midnight Outlaws and how someone ratted them out to Frank Tennant, who Mark now likes that he's older and wiser.
Dr. Keith asks why in the world would young Mark attempted a shooting star press off a truck (as seen in the ROH Motor City Madness show in Detroit, MI on 10/7/06)? Mark said the night before (in Cleveland) he did the same move with Ernie the Student which Keith, in his inebriated state, and in the midst of a confrontation and slap fight with Homicide, remembers perfectly. Dr. Keith goes on to tell the story of the shooting star in its finest glory and how the Briscoe's originally attempted to powerbomb someone from inside the truck to the outside, and almost had a Giant vs. Nash Souled Out 98 incident!
Keith asks how Mark lost his front teeth due to an errant chair shot by Jay at a Pro Wrestling Unplugged. Mark says that Jay used to call him Jabba because of his teeth, not any more!. Their time in TNA is discussed. Back in its infancy, the Briscoe's have had five-six dark matches with TNA but had a 'shitty' pay-per-view match. They have no regrets over TNA 'as we wouldn't be wrestling for NOAH next month,' or under Russo.
More on their first ever tour of NOAH, Dr. Keith put over their work with KENTA, especially the match with Kenta & Marufuji vs. The Briscoe's from Night one of Glory By Honor V. The Briscoe's liked the match even if it was held under a tent. Keith asks about KENTA's kicks; 'he kicks pretty darn hard,' they're looking forward to winning the GHC Junior tag team titles on their first trip of Pro Wrestling NOAH. Keith is gitty about them in NOAH. They view the pressure on them for 2007 as a good thing. Keith says the fact that they weren't kicked out of Japan on their first visit for Big Japan a few years ago as a good thing.
On how long they have left in pro-wrestling; 'I don't think my bodies got too many years left,' and talks over his DOG BREEDING BUSINESS that's currently on the go. The Briscoe compare injury stories. On Mark's pitbull; 'keep away from that... person, dog, cat.' Dog talk commences, they do not train their dogs to fight.
The Briscoe's then shoot on the local police due in scenic Delaware; 'Biggest son's of bitches around,' but laughing that 'they can't keep up with them bikes.' Dr. Keith suggests a sidecar with Jay in it in order to prevent another Briscoe Brothers Bike wipeout.
Keith asks about Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, 'they've got some good-ass (crop) down there.' The Briscoe's talk about missing their last flight there and whether they think they'll be back again.
The Briscoe's put over Smackdown and on TNA; 'RUSSO'S FUCKING ALL THAT UP.' They also put over 'polite' European fans, and talk about how they want to watch more old school tapes to hone their craft.
CZW, third Briscoe brother, the full blooded Haitians, the FIP WORLD tag team championships, and a question time with moustache talk, Ned Flanders Briscoe, Mark's Kawada teeth, the forthcoming TNA video game and their expansive Christmas present list are all discussed in this excellent interview. Including one of the finest segments in Dr. Keith history where he asks the Briscoe's one on one who the superior Briscoe is in the following areas: Better Wrestling Briscoe, Funnier Briscoe, Smarter Briscoe, More Powerful Briscoe, Better Video Gamer Briscoe, Superior Dental Hygiene Briscoe, Best Dancing Briscoe and of course Braver Briscoe? Great interview with two wonderful boys

Drake Younger Recap
The CZW Underground Ultra-Violent Champion Drake talks about being a huge "Sick" Nick Mondo mark, and wanting to excel at both the technical and garbage style of professional wrestling. What weapon has hurt him worst? It was in a no-roped barbed-wire after an Irish whip and falling onto his head outside the ring (checkout YouTube or Drake's myspace for sick footage of this).
WrestleMania VII is discussed which Drake attended. Drake says the photo's of Ric Flair and Elizabeth were doctored, 'no, no, no,' cries a heartbroken Doctor. Drake wasn't actually inspired by Papa Shango although he did enjoy Tugboat, even purchasing a Hulk Hogan friendship bracelet. 'YOU FUCKING MARK' proclaims Dr. Keith. Keith however suggests that that friendship bracelet could become a powerful weapon…Drake says he'll have to ask Zandig's permission to use his Hulkamania friendship bracelet in CZW.
Drake gives a lecture on the perils of backyard wrestling. After backyarding, Drake was trained by American Kickboxer, and talking about listening to ring veterans talking about the business on a long van ride. Thankfully two of those vets were Tracy Smothers and Iron Sheik. Keith would have loved to be riding shotgun and listen to Tracy and Sheiky baby talking about the business. The best piece of advice Ian Rotten gave Drake was 'quit half-assing and come to IWA,' and asks with a straight face; 'how many huge wrestlers have came from the IWA?'
Apparently Drake vs. JC Bailey in a barefoot thumbtack death match 'hurt like hell,' and that the tacks were dirty. He was told about the match the ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW, Jim Cornette would love that one. Tabasco and lemon juice were also ingredients in another match-up, 'it felt like my feet had swollen up to the net shoe size.' If thousands of thumbtacks, Tabasco(~!) and lemon juice weren't enough, two boxes of light tubes were also added later on that night.
What is the Necro Butcher like? 'He's the nicest man in the world, and in wrestling him, he had the greatest time in the world, although he 'hurts like hell,' afterwards. Drake has 'always, always, always, always wanted to work with Eddie Kingston SO bad.' They talk about their match at the IWA-MS Strong Style 2006 Tournament which is available at SmartMarkVideo.com. Keith puts over that even though Drake lost to Eddie in the finals, he was the MVP of the night according to referee PJ Drummond.
Drake talks about wrestling six matches in two IWA tournaments (Strong Style in Mid South, Carnage Cup in Deep South) weekend, including a 200 light tube match, and even though 'it sounds kinda gay' he felt 'more of a man,' after the weekend of strong style and hardcore.
Keith asks Drake whether he will wrestle for Big Japan, which Drake says is his 'ULTIMATE GOAL! 'The splendid interview finishes with more Christmas present discussion. Very good interview. Checkout www.myspace.com/drakeyounger for more information on this up and comer.

IWA returns to Midlo on 1-5-07 w/ Low Ki vs. Roderick Strong
By IWA-Mid South
Due to a scheduling conflict with the Capital Sports Arena, we have to move the January 5th date. We decided to keep the show and move it to Midlothian on short notice instead of cancelling this event. We hope that our fans can still come out and see this event. Friday Night, January 5th, 2007 Don Preston Rec Center 14500 Kostner Avenue Midlothian, IL 8:00 PM Belltime
Tickets - $20 front row, $15 second row, $10 general admission
Main Event - Dream Match
Low Ki vs. Roderick Strong. These two men faced off in the finals of the 2006 TPI with Arik Cannon but this will be a one on one encounter that wrestling fans have asked for!
Grudge Match of Epic Proportions
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Josh Abercrombie - Josh and Jimmy were best of friends but it was Josh who sold out Jimmy Jacobs and delivered him to the BMFers on a silver platter at the TPI in order to save his light heavyweight title and his job in IWA. Jimmy Jacobs has shown up a couple of times since then unannounced looking for revenge and after the events in Rock Island, he received his job back and gets a shot at revenge in this match.
Special Challenge Match - Finishers Match
Drake Younger vs. CJ Otis - These on again off again partners will once again do battle...this time to determine who has the better finisher...CJ's Burning Hammer or Drake's Vertebreaker. They stole the show at the Strong Style Tournament with their hard hitting contest and this should be no different.
We ask that any fan that has a DVD board id, please post this on that message board without the ticket prices to get the word out about the venue change as we do not have an account. It would be greatly appreciated.
The rest of the lineup will be announced tomorrow.
The next show in Plainfield will be on January 26th.

Hartford & NYC Results!!! Wednesday, December 27, 2006
Ring Of Honor returned to action on the weekend before Christmas with two huge events. 12/22/06 saw ROH's debut in Hartford, CT at the CT Expo Center for two title matches. Here are results: 1) Jason Blade defeated Pelle Primeau with a moonsault.
2) Austin Aries defeated Eddie Edwards, who looked good in his ROH debut.
3) Adam Pearce defeated Delirious with help from brass knuckles and Shane Hagadorn. Pelle Primeau tossed Hagadorn to Delirious after the match so Delirious could get a measure of revenge.
4) BJ Whitmer & Daizee Haze defeated Jimmy Jacobs & Mercedes Martinez when Haze pinned Martinez, who was knocked out by a BJ Whitmer lariat. Martinez needed to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance and was released later in the night with a severe concussion. Brent Albright attacked Whitmer after the match and Colt Cabana made the save leading to:
5) Colt Cabana defeated Brent Albright
6) Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli defeated Jay & Mark Briscoe when Larry Sweeney made his surprise debut and interfered.
7) ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson won a Four Corner Survival by pinning Nigel McGuinness in a match that included Jimmy Rave and Homicide. Towards the end of the match, Danielson rammed Homicide's already injured shoulder into the ringpost. Homicide never got back into the match due to the injury. Samoa Joe came to ringside to check on Homicide. The referee was distracted by Joe on the outside and didn't count a McGuinness pin on Rave. McGuinness then had words for Joe for distracting the ref. Danielson used this opportunity to tag Rave and then catch Nigel in a small package for the pin. McGuinness was really upset at Joe after the match.
8) Roderick Strong defeated Davey Richards by countout to retain the FIP Heavyweight Title in an excellent match.
9) Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal retained the ROH World Tag Team Titles by defeating Dragon Gate's CIMA & Shingo in the match of the night.
ROH would like to thank all the fans of Hartford for a great night. ROH will return on May 11th.
The next night, 12/23, saw ROH return to the Manhattan Center in New York City for "Final Battle 2006." The show marked ROH's second consecutive sellout of the Grand Ballroom. The atmosphere was even more electric and crowd reactions even more intense than "Glory By Honor V: Night 2" as Homicide captured the ROH World Title. Here are complete results:
1) The show opened with Santa and some elves throwing out presents to the crowd. Jay & Mark Briscoe hit the ring and destroyed them. Jay then said they wanted Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli after what happened last night in Hartford.
2) Jimmy Rave won a Four Corner Survival by making El Generico tap to the heal hook. The match also included ROH World Tag Team Champion Christopher Daniels and Davey Richards. After the match, Rave said he would take respect by winning the World Title, but Nigel McGuinness jumped him and spit in his face.
3) Adam Pearce defeated Ricky Reyes in an impromptu match. After the match, Pearce and Shane Hagadorn gave Julius Smokes a spike piledriver in an attempt to injure Smokes so he wouldn't be in Homicide's corner for the main event. Pearce guaranteed that Homicide would not win the belt.
4) Jimmy Jacobs & Brent Albright defeated Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer in a slugfest that saw Albright powerbomb Whitmer from the ring, over the top rope, to the floor, through a table.
5) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeated Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli in the show stealing match. Before the match, Hero introduced Larry Sweeney as his sports agent. After the match, Castagnoli surprised everyone and announced that this wasn't his last show and he would stay in ROH. Sweeney told Castagnoli that he only signed Hero to his stable and he and Hero walked off. Samoa Joe then came down to the ring and told Castagnoli to get out of his ring. Castagnoli, shocked that Hero would leave with Sweeney instead of him, left. Joe then challenged NOAH to send a representative to face him when ROH returns to Manhattan on 2/16. McGuinness came out and said he would send word to the NOAH office and if they didn't send anyone, he would fight Joe. Rave then jumped Nigel from behind. Joe separated things and told McGuinness and Rave to fight it out.
6) Rave defeated McGuinness in another show stealer when Nigel tapped to the heal hook. After the bout, Rave spit on Nigel and demanded a World Title Match on 2/16.
7) CIMA, Shingo & ROH World Tag Team Champion Matt Sydal defeated Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Delirious in a great Dragon Rules Match when CIMA pinned Delirious.
8) Homicide defeated Bryan Danielson to win the ROH World Title in one of the most emotional matches in ROH history. We aren't going to attempt to describe this with words. You needed to be there live to experience it.
ROH wants to thank the great fans of New York City for another sellout of the Manhattan Center and an explosive atmosphere. We'll see you in Manhattan on February 16th.

Pearl Jam, after displacing Nirvana, last year's winner, as the Greatest Rock Group, has regained the lead from Led Zeppelin. Nirvana, has dropped to 6th. Led Zeppelin and Evanescence are 2nd and 3rd respectively. Pearl Jam's '91 debut album, "Ten," has also bested, for now, Nirvana's "Nevermind" as the Greatest Rock Album. AC/DC's "Back In Black" and Green Day's "American Idiot" have made significant gains. For more information on the current standings, go to http://www.rockintown.com. This has been an exceptional year with the number of votes cast already exceeding five times the number submitted in 2005. Voting will continue through midnight, East Coast time, December 31st. Winners will be posted New Year's Day at RockinTown.com. RockinTown.com is an online magazine dedicated to rock music. NWA Anarchy TV Report Episode 42 December 18, 2006
Today is a sad for Mid-Atlantic indy wrestling. NWA Virginia promoter Rick O'Brien has decided to not renew his license. NWA Virginia featured some the best talent and best shows for indy wrestling in the area. I'd like to give special thanks to Rick for taking time to have fundraisers to benefit innercity youth here in Richmond: Blackwell Elementary, Powathan Hills, Westover Hills, etc. Thanks for the great shows that you brought to different areas of Virginia, Rick.
I received two death threats this week. Please be nice to me... I will have the TPI 2006 Night 1 review up by Sunday. All of these reports can be read at http://airplanespin.com/board/index.php?showforum=20.
WRESTLING: (n.) \’res-ling\ A sport of contest in which two individuals face off in unarmed combat. ANARCHY: (n.) \an-ar-key\ (1) A state of lawlessness due to absence of authority. (2) A complete lack of order. What happens when you mix the two together? NWA-Anarchy!
- John Johnson recaps last week’s events: Dan Wilson proclaimed a tornado tables tournament to determine who the Devil’s Rejects would defend their tag titles against and Slim J defeated Chad Parham to become the #1 contender to NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Jeff Lewis.
- Greg Hunter is standing by with Jeff G. Bailey and the NWA Elite. Bailey commands Hunter to welcome back Onyx. They plan to show why they are the best tag team in the company. He’s mad because Patrick Bentley tried to place Lewis in the full nelson. Consequently, Lewis is going to provide a wrestling lesson to Bentley & Delay. Bailey adds that it would take three men the size of Bentley to tear up a picture of Onyx. As NWA Elite heads to the ring, Jerry Palmer sneaks in and strikes a deal with Bailey.
1. NWA Elite (Onyx & Jeff Lewis) vs. Seth Delay & Patrick Bentley THE MATCH: It looks like the NWA Elite is without their manager for this contest. The announcers argue over how they obtain the inside scoop. Hunter asks Johnson to go to the back, but that thought is defeated when Bailey heads out. The heels take over when Lewis eye gouges Delay. Lewis thinks of him as inferior talent and stomps a mudhole in Delay to prove it. After a commercial break, the NWA Elite works over Delay’s neck and back. Delay finally makes a comeback when he catches Lewis leaping off the top rope with an inverted atomic drop. Bentley tags in and slaps on the full nelson. Lewis makes it to the ropes to force the break and tags in Onyx. They double suplex Onyx. Onyx fights back with a huge decapitation double clothesline. Onyx delivers a trio of gravity defying backdrops to Bentley. Lewis heads out and trips up Delay. Onyx prepares to cinch in the full nelson, but Bentley calmly rolls him up for the pinfall victory. WINNER: Bentley & Delay. COMMENTS: This was a good television style match. Those backdrops Onyx delivered were simply amazing; I’ve only seen a few people deliver like that. There was good psychology and storytelling here. RATING: **¼
2. Adam Roberts vs. Christian Hayme THE MATCH: The story behind this match is that Hamie has substituted as a tag partner for Alabama Attitude. It’s obvious that Roberts subscribes to the Old School Empire philosophy of guaranteeing quality ass whoopins. Roberts delivers a series of vicious and stiff clotheslines in the corner. Roberts dominates until Hamie fights back with a tornado DDT. Hamie bounces off the ropes and Roberts finishes him off with the Main Event Slam. Afterwards, Roberts cleans the referee’s clock and straps Hamie with a leather belt. TC Carnage heads out to make the save. WINNER: Adam Roberts. COMMENTS: This was a fun and stiff squash match. No one can say Hamie didn’t pay his dues. However, it seemed like the crowd was more into booing Roberts than cheering on Hamie. RATING: ½*
- TC Carnage talks about taking Adam Robert’s beating back at Hostile Environment. Carnage vows to fulfill his promise to deliver an Alabama Ass Whoopin to Roberts. Roberts ran like a yellow egg sucking dog. (Long live Terry Funk.) In the South, you face your problems face to face, toe to toe. Carnage promises to kiss his ass if this ain’t country.
3. NWA Anarchy TV Title: Brandon Phoenix (ch.) w/Brody Ray Chase vs. Sal Rinauro THE MATCH: Rinauro dominates the opening moments by keeping the World TV Champion with a headlock. Rinauro heads over to the top turnbuckle, but he decides to argue with Chase. Like any great heel, Phoenix takes advantage by pulling the legs right from under Rinauro. Damn, that was an awesome spot. Phoenix wrenches Rinauro’s neck with a back suplex. After a commercial break, Rinauro kicks Phoenix away and delivers a huge top turnbuckle clothesline. The crowd trade dueling chants rooting for both wrestlers. Chase decides to head in the ring, but he pays the price. Rinauro whips him into the corner. Rinauro grabs Phoenix and forces him to shoulderblock his trainer in the corner. Phoenix accidentally administers more punishment to Chase when he kicks out of a roll up. Phoenix avalanches Chase. Rinauro walks up Chase to the deliver the Ninja (Sliced Bread #2). Rinauro makes the cover, but Lewis kicks out. Rinauro scores another near fall with a victory roll. He delivers 10 Shots to the Dome of Todd Sexton. Rinauro goes for a clothesline, but Phoenix hooks his arm and ropes him on his head with a belly to belly suplex for a two count. Rinauro catches Phoenix in the corner with a kick. Rinauro knocks Chase back to the floor. Phoenix slings his title at Rinauro, but he ducks and delivers a picturesque dropkick. Chase nails Rinauro with the title belt when bounces off the ropes and Chase forces him to pass out to a sleeper variation. WINNER: Phoenix retains. COMMENTS: Fun match. Good storytelling. Awesome heel tandem. What more can you ask for in a TV match? RATING: **½
4. Urban Assault Squad (Nemesis & Shadow Jackson) vs. Texas Hitmen (Skitzo & Big Dog) STIPULATION: The winners of the tournament will receive a title shot in a table match for the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Titles. THE MATCH: The Texas Hitmen take the early advantage with special thanks to a premeditated attacked launched by the Devil’s Rejects. Skitzo posts a bloody Jackson after saving his partner from a Sunset flip bomb from the apron. They double suplex Nemesis. Skitzo wants to super rana Nemesis through a table, but Jackson holds his partner’s leg to prevent it. Jackson gets knocked back to the floor. He heads back in the ring with a chair, but Dog punches the living hell out of it. Big Dog twists Nemesis head and Skitzo delivers a vicious Spinal Tap. Nemesis tries to fight back by whipping Skitzo into Big Dog, but Skitzo leapfrogs over his partner and Big Dog spears Nemesis. Was that sentence hard to read? Yeah, it was hard enough for me to type. Big Dog places Nemesis on a table and Jackson shoves Skitzo off the top rope. Nemesis gets off the table, but Big Dog sends Jackson back to the floor. Skitzo lands a baseball slide and Big Dog shoulderblocks Nemesis while he is tied to the Tree of Woe. Jackson finally mounts an offense. UAS take out Big Dog with a double goozle. They deliver a big boot/German suplex combination to Skitzo. They hold Skitzo. Big Dog charges in, but right into his tag partner. The fans scream for the table and set Skitzo on it. The Rejects heads out, but Justice Served makes the save with a pair of barbed wire baseball bats. UAS double stomps Skitzo through a table to win the match. POSTMATCH: Justice Served and UAS end the show on a high note by raising each other’s arms in victory as the crowd chants “Anarchy.” COMMENTS: This was another good match that told a good story. It was obvious the Texas Hitmen was going to lose, but they looked credible tonight despite being a jobber tag team in Anarchy. Big Dog looked really good at points, especially with the JYD/Rufus R. Jones style headbutt and punching the chair. The show ended on a high note, which is OK to do. It’s nice to know that Anarchy doesn’t end with a cliffhanger every episode. RATING: **
- OVERALL: This was a fun episode of Anarchy and worth the download. Every match was good, including the Adam Roberts squash. There wasn’t too much emphasis on storylines, but the show still helped to build up for Fright Night ’06. The October 21 tapings will be aired on Anarchy for the next two weeks. - DOWNLOAD: http://www.thesuperstation.net/nwaanarchy.html.

NWA ME from Columbia 12-16-06 Before the matches started, "Mr. Impact" J.T. Quest and Xstacy came out. They heard that "Outlaw" Lee Condry was not going to be there, and asked if it was true. They were going to take the night off because he had no one to wrestle. Jimmy Smith explained to the fans why "Outlaw" Lee Condry was not there. It was because J.T. Quest hit Lee’s wife, Pam, in the head with the crow bar (Lil’ Impact) on Thursday night in Smyrna, TN. It busted her head open and gave her a concussion. Her doctor said that she was not to be alone. Then, 2-Bit came out with his phone and said that Lee was on the phone and has something to say to J.T. Quest. Condry said that he will be back on the 12/23/06 at the NWA MAIN EVENT CHRISTMAS SHOW and for what he did to Pam, he was going to give J.T. the beating of his life and if Xstacy wanted some she will get her share. J.T. and Xstacy said they was going home and started to walk off. Jimmy Smith then told them they had a match that night and could not go anywhere. JT and Xstacy got mad and went back to the locker room.
MATCH 1
Antonio vs. Jason X
Antonio started out with some arm drags. Jason X came back with a few kicks to the mid-section. Then Antonio threw Jason X into the corner for a huge splash, but Jason X moved out of the way and Antonio hit the corner. Jason X rolled him up with his feet on the ropes to help hold him down. Your winner in 5:10 by pin fall Jason X.
MATCH 2
Shady Grady & 2-Bit vs. Cody Whitehead & The Avenger
Shady & 2-Bit were tagging in and out working on The Avenger’s arm. The Avenger got away and tagged in Cody. Cody worked on Shady. Cody tagged The Avenger back in. He goes to work kicking Shady in the mid-section before Shady has time to get off the mat. Cody ran back in with a gigantic stomp to the face of Shady. Shady badly needs to make a tag. Cody went for two clotheslines but missed them both. Shady came back with a clothesline of his own to Cody then tagged in 2-Bit. 2-Bit has Cody up for “A Bit of Reality”. Then Nightmare came out and grabbed 2-Bit’s feet and held then down for the pin. Your winner in 4:57 by pin fall was Cody Whitehead & The Avenger.
MATCH 3
"Prototype" Bobby Surge vs. Nightmare
Nightmare comes to the ring and he had to have Cody Whitehead & The Avenger with him. Bobby had the advantage over Nightmare so he jumped out of the ring to regroup. He climbed back into the ring and Bobby was attacking him again. Bobby was going for the pin when Cody and The Avenger hit the ring to help Nightmare. The referee then called for the bell in 3:26 and declared Bobby Surge your winner by D.Q. Shady Grady & 2-Bit ran out to make it three on three.
Mike Porter came to the ring and called out Mark Anthony. He welcomed Mark Anthony back to the NWA MAIN EVENT. Mark said he was glad to be back and was going to take on all competitors. He said he was to take on Tracy Smothers but Tracy had not showed up. So he said he would take on anyone. Steve-O came out and welcomed Mark to the NWA ME. Steve-O asked Mark to be his partner to face "The Syndicate Crew" and take the tag team titles. Mark said, OK and shook Steve-O’s hand. Steve-O turned to leave the ring and Mark jumped him from behind. They battled all over the ring before other wrestlers came in to break them up. Then Steve-O said he was scheduled to be in a six man tag team match but wanted to take on Mark Anthony later tonight instead. Mike Porter said that will be fine.
MATCH 4
Johnny Gunnz & Brandon Stone w/ Sexy Jessi
Vs.
Manga w/Miss Opium & “Impact Inc.” Michael White w/ Broadway Rose
Manga & Michael jumped Johnny & Brandon on their way to the ring. This match was going back and forth all the way. Then Broadway Rose got on the ring apron to get the referee’s attention so Michael was able to hit Gunnz with an object. Then Miss Opium hit Sexy Jessi so she could not interfere. Manga and Michael hit Stone and stole the win. Your winner in 8:46 by pin fall; Manga & Michael White.
MATCH 5
"America Nightmare" Johnny Demento vs. The Stalker
This was a good match for the "America Nightmare" Johnny Demento. The Stalker was no match for him. Demento wore The Stalker down until he was able to get the pin in 7:20.
MATCH 6
"The Syndicate Crew" L.A.Player, DeAngelo and Psycho Medic w/ Y.T.
vs.
"HNIC" Apollo & J.B. Thunder
This match is now a 4 man tag match so L.A. Player had to stay on the floor. This match was wild from the start. No one was able to get the upper hand. Then L.A. and Y.T. started to help out by hitting Apollo & J.B. Thunder with the belt and a cane. This allowed the Crew to get the pin in 11:15.

Back in the ring, Steve-O was making a come back. He threw Mark into the corner for a big splash. Mark moved and Steve-O came running in and hit the corner. Mark rolled him up with his feet on the rope. Your winner in 6:48 by pin fall Mark Anthony.
MATCH 8
"Wildside" Chris Champion vs NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Impact" J.T. Quest w/ Xstacy
The match started off with Chris Champion blowing fire all over the place. J.T. Quest said he was not going to fight a dragon. Chris chased J.T. around the ring and threw him in the ring. Chris was chopping J.T. all over the place. Xstacy then grabbed Champion’s foot so J.T. could get the upper hand. J.T. then had Chris in a head lock to set him up for a big suplex. J.T. had Chris up so high that his feet knock out two lights over the ring. There was glass all over the ring when Champion came down. Quest held him up side down so long that Chris was dazed and weak due to the blood rushing to his head. This allowed J.T. to get the pin in 9:13

NWA EMPIRE UPDATE:
***JONNY PUMA UPDATE: In the last mailing list update, it was stated that retired NWA Empire star Jonny Puma had been challenged by NWA Empire Champion (and fed owner) Hellcat to show up at NWA Empire's next show, VIVA LA Revolution, being held on January 27th at St. Johnsburg Fire Hall on Ward Road in North Tonawanda, NY. Hellcat had said that if Jonny Puma has the guts to show up, that Hellcat he will put the NWA Empire title on the line in a match with Puma, making that his first title defense. Hellcat won the title on November 11, 2006 (the inaugural crowning) at NWA Empire's last show, Pilgrims and Piledrivers 2006, winning a tournament final over Kevin Dunn.
Well the possibility of Jonny Puma showing up to answer Hellcat's challenge has sparked a great deal of comment and debate on the official NWA Empire message board, NWA Empire Fan Club ((http://s6.invisionfree.com/nwaempirefanclub/index.php?).
Recently Dan Kreigbaum, who operates the NWA Empire Fan Club message board, posted to the board that he had run into none other than Jonny Puma at a local grocery store. Here is Dan's post:
"As some of you already know, refereeing at NWA Empire doesn't pay the bills, so I have another job working at Tops (thanks to the 4 kids front row screaming that every time I walked out last show).
Last week, Jonny Puma was at the store, and as soon as he saw me, his face lit up with a smile from ear to ear. He then mouthed the words, "January 27th, baby!" After he was done shopping, he came through my checkout line, and kept mentioning January 27th.
Could this possibly mean that he'll be there?"
Most fans were wondering where the loyalties of Ice stand in a possible battle between Hellcat and Puma. Ice has served as Hellcat's bodyguard since the June Empire show but prior to that he and Jonny Puma, along with Randy Walker, made up the faction in Empire State Wrestling (ESW) known as Club Elite. Well wonder no more, because Ice recently let his feelings on the subject be known in this post on the message board:
"Puma if you're actually smart enough to read this, don't forget who put that title around your waist. Don't forget who kept that title around your waist. Last but not least don't forget who's signature is on the paycheck now! When ESW died and Empire rose from the ashes, you hung me out to dry, you left me for dead with ESW. What makes you think for a second that I'm going to let you take the title off the waist of the man who's giving me a shot in HIS company. Puma I know every trick in your book, now Hellcat knows them too. You don't have a chance in hell!"
Fans seem to be, for the most part, on Puma's side, although there are some who side with Hellcat. Here are a sampling of posts from fans on the Hellcat vs Puma situation:
"I think win or lose Puma should get a standing ovation for what he has done for ESW and for NWA Empire. He was, as I said earlier, a great all around wrestler. I think win or lose he should get a standing ovation for his accomplishments and a welcome back chant."
"Wouldn't it be great to have Puma burst though that curtain for first time in over six months only to have his ass soundly booed right out of St. Johnsburg?"
"Hellcat, come January 27, you're gonna find out what would've happened had Jonny Puma not retired. He's gonna walk into the St. Johnsburg Fire Hall and do what he did for 3 years. Kick some ass. Hellcat you're lucky Puma retired when he did and took himself out of the tournament. Otherwise it would've come down to him vs. Dunn, and he'd be holding that belt right now."
"I'm getting sick and tired of how this guy keeps walking out and abandoning the fans and the fed, only to have all these sheep kiss his ass when he comes waltzing back only when its' convenient to him. Maybe we should start calling him Jonny Hogan!"
So where do you stand? Are you Pro-Puma or Pro-Hellcat. Reply to this mail with your stand and your reasoning and I'll include them in a future mailing list update.
**LORD OF THE DANCE TITLE MATCH UPDATE: The third person in the LOTD match at VIVA LA Revolution has been named. Previously it had been announced that "The Mastiff" Will Christianson will be defending the title against indy star "Fabulous" John McChesney and an unknown challenger. That unknown challenger has been announced as indy star "Sterling" James Keenan. Keenan holds a victory over Mastiff, having pinned Mastiff in the final match of a gauntlet series at NWA Upstate's February 2006 show after Mastiff had defeated both Vince Beach and The Czar in separate matches.
Keenan and McChesney constitute one of the more formidable challenges to Mastiff's title. Both men work will together as they often wrestle as a tag team in NWA Upstate, where they are members of the Star Foundation, a faction in NWA Upstate managed by the masked Star Rider. But will their individual drive for NWA Empire gold work against them as far as working together in the match with Mastiff? Also, you have to wonder if this means NWA Empire fans will be graced with the fed's first appearance of the Star Rider himself?

NWA UPSTATE UPDATE:
***For those of you who have not yet heard the news yet, Brodie Lee is now a former NWA Upstate champion. Brodie lost the title on December 2nd in a brutal match with former close friend Jimmy Olsen at NWA Upstate's last show, X-mas Chaos.
***At that same show there was a rash of wrestlers turning on their friends and/or partners: 1. The popular tag team Up in Smoke broke up during a match with "Sterling" James Keenan and "Fabulous" John McChesney when Up in Smoke member Cloudy turned on his partner Cheech and left ringside in the company of Brodie Lee. Later Cloudy tried to interfere on Lee's behalf during Brodie's title defense against Jimmy Olsen, but luckily Cheech came out from the back to chase Cloudy from ringside before he could do any damage.
2. The popular masked man Triple X turned on his six-man tag partners Big Cat Leemer and Spazz, laying out the Big Cat with a chair shot that allowed The Upstate Dynasty (Vince Beach, Derek Duncum, and The Czar) to retain the NWA Upstate Six-Man Tag Team Championship. Triple X has promised to explain his actions at NWA Upstate next show on February 10th 2007.
3. NWA Upstate Tag Team Champs The Roadies (Dunn & Marcos) apparently turned on the bodyguard Van Atlas when they fired Atlas during an in-ring announcement. However this was later proven to be a Roadie plot, as Atlas later team up with, then turned against the returning J.P. Black during an impromptu 4-way tag match pitting Atlas/Black against Da Barrio Boyz, The McClouds, and The Roadies, enabling The Roadies to retain the tag belts. After the match J.P. Black promised that he was going to make Van Atlas pay for his actions.
***NWA UPSTATE'S NEXT SHOW is scheduled for Saturday February 10, 2007 at Minett Hall in Henrietta, NY. No card has been announced as of yet, but the show will see former NWA and ECW Champion, "The King of the Old School" Steve Corino in action, and will also feature a special appearance by "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase.

NWA Upstate/NWA Empire owner Hellcat recently announced on the NWA Upstate Message Board (http://nwaupny.com/forum/) that Canadian indy standout CODY DEANER has been signed to appear at NWA Upstate's February Fallout show, which is being held on February 10, 2007 at Minett Hall in Henrietta, NY.
Cody Deaner previously wrestled as "Completely" Cody Steele, and under that persona was a semi-regular on Empire State Wrestling (ESW) shows in 2004 and 2005. He had a couple great matches with Derek Wylde in ESW, along with a blistering feud with Sean Spears that was very well received by ESW fans. Cody's last appearance in NWA Upstate was at the 2005 Upstate-8 Tag Team Tournament, where he teamed with fellow Canadian Sean Spears in a first round loss to current NWA Upstate Tag Team Champs The Roadies (then known as The Ring Crew Express).
If you've never seen Cody Deaner in action, make sure you make the drive out to NWA Upstate for their February show. You won't be disappointed. Also scheduled to appear at NWA Upstate's February show are second generation wrestling superstar "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, as well as former NWA and ECW champion "King of the Old School" Steve Corino, making this show a MUST for all WNY wrestling fans.
Here's the info on the February NWA Upstate show as related to date, location, time, and ticket prices. Keep checking the the official NWA Upstate website at http://nwaupny.com/index.php for more information on the card as it becomes available:

HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH "Mr. 21st Century" CHRIS TAYLOR defends the title against "#1" DARON SMYTHE Chris Taylor has issued an open challenge to anybody who thinks they can take away his destiny of being the NWA-PWX Heavyweight champion. Taylor has announced that this is not just any open challenge, but that he wants it to be a challenge and wants his opponent to be a former Heavyweight champion. Well, one former NWA-PWX Heavyweight Champion who has never lost the championship in the ring decided to answer the call - "#1" Daron Smythe. Not only did Smythe never lose the championship in the ring, but the last time he was seen in PWX, he had the championship around his waist. Smythe went down with a severe head injury, but has since rebounded and taken the hot Florida wrestling scene by storm. Will the AWC's hand picked champion be able to defeat Smythe, who appears to be at the top of his game?
RUSSIAN CHAIN MATCH "THE SOVIET SHOOTER" NIKITA ALLANOV squares off with "THE KING OF MEN" DEVIN DEVINE On December 9th, Nikita Allanov defeated Devin Devine in a singles match that the Pittsburgh wrestling fans thought would be the final battle. However, Allanov angered Devine as he resorted to using his chain to win the match. After the match Devine challenged Allanov to a Russian Chain match so that they can finally finish a war that was started over a year ago. Allanov accepted this challenge for his own specialty match. This match could end the career of one of these competitors forever!
SCOTTIE GASH ISSUES A CHALLENGE TO THREE RIVERS CHAMP PAUL ATLAS At the December 9th event, Scottie Gash was screwed out of a possible victory over Crusher Hansen by a ringside appearance from Paul Atlas and the Atlas Wrestling Company. Now Gash wants his revenge once and for all, and has issued a challenge to Atlas for his Three Rivers title. Gash has been standing up for PWX in this war against the AWC since day one, and wants to finally get his hands on Paul Atlas. Will Atlas oblige the challenger, or will he want something in return for giving Gash a rematch for the title?
UNDEFEATED STREAK VS MEAN STREAK: BLUE DRAGON VERSUS "HANGMAN" CRUSHER HANSEN Just when fans think Blue Dragon's undefeated streak is going to come to an end, he continues to prove them wrong. At the past show, Blue Dragon gained a victory by a disqualification over the Three Rivers champion Paul Atlas - his second defeat of a grand slam champion in a row!. Now that he has begun to move up in the rankings, Crusher Hansen has challenged him and claims that he will be the one to end this joke once and for all. With Hansen's mean streak lately, it will be definitely be a challenge for Blue Dragon to hold his own against the frustrated "Hangman"
BRASS KNUCKLES TITLE MATCH: DASH BENNETT DEFENDS THE TITLE AGAINST "SYKO" SEAN DAHMER The rivalry between these two continues to grow, and they will meet once more at New Years Knockout. There is a strong rumor that Dash Bennett has demanded that a stipulation be added to this match, however no confirmation of a stipulation has been made at this time. In their first encounter since splitting as a team, Bennett exposed the turnbuckle and delivered his Skull Splitter to Dahmer in order to gain the win and retain his Brass Knuckles title. What will happen on December 30th when these two meet again??? .
plus...
TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS ISSUE AN OPEN CHALLENGE JAKE GARRETT & DEVIL BHUDAKAHN WILL DEFEND THE TITLES The Devil's Advocates suffered a loss against the debuting team of Real Smooth (Aaron Gibbs & Ethan Price) in a non-title match. If the Advocates were looking for a new number one contender, they may have found it. However, the champs have not agreed to a rematch yet, and have instead issued an open challenge against any team, and this time they are willing to put the titles on the line. Who will answer this offer, and will the Devil's Advocates be ready this time?

ATLANTA - James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.
Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.
Copsidas said the cause of death was uncertain. "We really don't know at this point what he died of," he said.
Along with Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and a handful of others, Brown was one of the major musical influences of the past 50 years. At least one generation idolized him, and sometimes openly copied him. His rapid-footed dancing inspired Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson among others. Songs such as David Bowie's "Fame," Prince's "Kiss," George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" were clearly based on Brown's rhythms and vocal style. If Brown's claim to the invention of soul can be challenged by fans of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, then his rights to the genres of rap, disco and funk are beyond question. He was to rhythm and dance music what Dylan was to lyrics: the unchallenged popular innovator.
"James presented obviously the best grooves," rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy once told The Associated Press. "To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one's coming even close."
His hit singles include such classics as "Out of Sight," "(Get Up I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine," "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "Say It Loud .. I'm Black and I'm Proud," a landmark 1968 statement of racial pride.
"I clearly remember we were calling ourselves colored, and after the song, we were calling ourselves black," Brown said in a 2003 Associated Press interview. "The song showed even people to that day that lyrics and music and a song can change society."
He won a Grammy award for lifetime achievement in 1992, as well as Grammys in 1965 for "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" (best R&B recording) and for "Living In America" in 1987 (best R&B vocal performance, male.) He was one of the initial artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, along with Presley, Chuck Berry and other founding fathers.
He triumphed despite an often unhappy personal life. Brown, who lived in Beech Island near the Georgia line, spent more than two years in a South Carolina prison for aggravated assault and failing to stop for a police officer. After his release on in 1991, Brown said he wanted to "try to straighten out" rock music.
From the 1950s, when Brown had his first R&B hit, "Please, Please, Please" in 1956, through the mid-1970s, Brown went on a frenzy of cross-country tours, concerts and new songs. He earned the nickname "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business" and often tried to prove it to his fans, said Jay Ross, his lawyer of 15 years.
Brown would routinely lose two or three pounds each time he performed and kept his furious concert schedule in his later years even as he fought prostate cancer, Ross said.
"He'd always give it his all to give his fans the type of show they expected," he said.
With his tight pants, shimmering feet, eye makeup and outrageous hair, Brown set the stage for younger stars such as Michael Jackson and Prince.
In 1986, he was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And rap stars of recent years overwhelmingly have borrowed his lyrics with a digital technique called sampling.
Brown's work has been replayed by the Fat Boys, Ice-T, Public Enemy and a host of other rappers. "The music out there is only as good as my last record," Brown joked in a 1989 interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
"Disco is James Brown, hip-hop is James Brown, rap is James Brown; you know what I'm saying? You hear all the rappers, 90 percent of their music is me," he told the AP in 2003.
Born in poverty in Barnwell, S.C., in 1933, he was abandoned as a 4-year-old to the care of relatives and friends and grew up on the streets of Augusta, Ga., in an "ill-repute area," as he once called it. There he learned to wheel and deal.
"I wanted to be somebody," Brown said.
By the eighth grade in 1949, Brown had served 3 1/2 years in Alto Reform School near Toccoa, Ga., for breaking into cars.
While there, he met Bobby Byrd, whose family took Brown into their home. Byrd also took Brown into his group, the Gospel Starlighters. Soon they changed their name to the Famous Flames and their style to hard R&B.
In January 1956, King Records of Cincinnati signed the group, and four months later "Please, Please, Please" was in the R&B Top Ten.
Pete Allman, a radio personality in Las Vegas who had been friends with Brown for 15 years, credited Brown with jump-starting his career and motivating him personally and professionally.
"He was a very positive person. There was no question he was the hardest working man in show business," Allman said. "I remember Mr. Brown as someone who always motivated me, got me reading the Bible."
While most of Brown's life was glitz and glitter .. he was the singing preacher in 1980's "The Blues Brothers" .. he was plagued with charges of abusing drugs and alcohol and of hitting his third wife, Adrienne.
In September 1988, Brown, high on PCP and carrying a shotgun, entered an insurance seminar next to his Augusta office. Police said he asked seminar participants if they were using his private restroom.
Police chased Brown for a half-hour from Augusta into South Carolina and back to Georgia. The chase ended when police shot out the tires of his truck.
Brown received a six-year prison sentence. He spent 15 months in a South Carolina prison and 10 months in a work release program before being paroled in February 1991. In 2003, the South Carolina parole board granted him a pardon for his crimes in that state.
Soon after his release, Brown was on stage again with an audience that included millions of cable television viewers nationwide who watched the three-hour, pay-per-view concert at Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.
Adrienne Brown died in 1996 in Los Angeles at age 47. She took PCP and several prescription drugs while she had a bad heart and was weak from cosmetic surgery two days earlier, the coroner said.
More recently, he married his fourth wife, Tomi Raye Hynie, one of his backup singers. The couple had a son, James Jr.
Two years later, Brown spent a week in a private Columbia hospital, recovering from what his agent said was dependency on painkillers. Brown's attorney, Albert "Buddy" Dallas, said the singer was exhausted from six years of road shows.
Brown was performing to the end, and giving back to his community.
Three days before his death, he joined volunteers at his annual toy giveaway in Augusta, and he planned to perform on New Year's Eve at B.B. King Blues Club in New York.
"He was dramatic to the end .. dying on Christmas Day," said the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a friend of Brown's since 1955. "Almost a dramatic, poetic moment. He'll be all over the news all over the world today. He would have it no other way."
